I always keep hand warmers on hand. For the use of selling chicks, they really come in handy. I only sell young babies to those that know what they are doing. I will put a hand warmer under some shavings in a box for them. If, by chance, you had any of those.......
When I use a cup, it goes just outside the lamp warmth..which I use.
Quote: That's too bad about the chicks and your kitty. These two look incredibly innocent...lol. We have a new stray that showed up, an orange fellow. Haven't found an owner so I guess we have a new cat. I'm not sure what he'll be like with chicks. I'll be thinking of your post and when it comes time to watch him and not to give him any slack.
Quote:You have it all planned out, nice! A plan is good.34 sounds like lot, doesn't it LOL
12 are easter egger leghorn mixes, half of those will be male (freezer camp) and half of the other half will lay pink eggs. I don't want those three, so they'll be sold. That will leave me with only three super blues.
21 are from my F1 Splash Ameraucana/Marans hens bred to a true Wheaten Ameraucana. Again, half will be males (off to freezer camp). That will leave me with only 10 or so females from that breeding.
Then there is my one top hat mix from my sneaky Buff Laced Polish. I wasn't planning on breeding him yet, but if the chick is a pullet and lays light blue eggs it will work perfectly in a little project I'm going to start this Spring.
All in all, I'll only have about 15 to free-range for eggs. My household eats a dozen eggs a day so the numbers work out.
I "had" planned on selling some of mine. I ended up keeping all of them.
Very nice on the plans.I haven't decided about my, now, sixteen lol. If I don't sell any off as chicks, we'll process the cockerels. Well, unless my turkens are boys. Then I'll try selling one and keep the other and be forced to build another pen. My little naked necks aren't going anywhere lol.
Now. #16 hatched around 330am, per my husband. It doesn't look like it's moved much and is kinda "gasping" in the corner of the incubator near where it was hatched. Is there anything I can do?

Quote: You're puppy has had quite a time throughout his life. Of course, it's all he's known so he wouldn't be aware of being any different or that he's had difficulties in comparison to a dog with no issues. That part would be really hard on hard on you, because you know the difference. He's very lucky that he has you and your family. It's especially hard with dogs as they get older. They're so close to us. As hard as it is, it's the last kindness we can give them.![]()
Our Max is 13 and we are so dreading seeing him getting older because we know one day he'll be gone. We're trying to include him as much as we can and in everything we do. I thought it was sweet that DH wasn't so concerned with us driving through the blizzard to bring the meal for my family side get together...he was worried how Max would be doing at home. He's beginning to lose his faculties and we are extra careful around him. I'm really hoping he can pass peacefully without intervention.
