A Bielefelder Thread !

Wonder if we could start a Go-Fund-Me?? LOL

Each donation of 50 or more gets some eggs, haha. I'd invest.

I'd be in! Importing scares me, but I'd invest if someone else wanted to do it.

I think we need to find a person who has the space to hatch and raise them to maturity and grow them out. I would but I don't have any room for a new coop or anything.

And someone living in the right climate. I would love to explore a project like this, but the Biels really struggle in the desert heat here. That's the primary reason I've resorted to crossing them with more heat tolerant birds, and hope to eventually have created a heat tolerant Biel.

Oh man! And you were just the person I was thinking of to head up this project!!

Are we talking about bringing in live birds or hatching eggs? I think the eggs are a good idea because it is less red tape and no quarantine .I would invest in that.
Finding a breeder is going to be our hardest task. From what Bine has described not many people would want the government inspectors on their property testing all their birds, opening themselves up to having the flock destroyed if anything is found.

Edited to add:

I found a breeder in Canada that has Silvers, they say they are a cousin to the German Bielefelders. Bigger birds, better, faster layers. Might be something to look into.

Importing hatching eggs I think would be the best route for the same reason. Imports from Canada also have less red tape to cut through.

If anyone is in the San Francisco area (or willing to drive up here), we have ten cockerels direct from greenfire looking for good homes. No, we don’t want payment, we just love the breed and want to help it grow. We love these birds, so we’re pretty choosy in whom we pick, but if you love your flock and are looking for a roo, let me know :)

Wow! How'd you wind up with so many? Why are you getting rid of them?
