A Bielefelder Thread !

All of my hatchlings, irrespective of breed, are fed a high protein ration of 20 - 26% for the first month of their life, fermented after they're a week old. I've found that this lends itself to more rapid feathering and greater vitality in the young birds.
Fascinating!! Do you ferment the feed yourself? How? (sorry, new to this!!) I'm giving them the classic Manna chick medicated feed.

Yes, I do all of the fermenting myself. It's really easy. Here's a link on how to get started: http://tikktok.wordpress.com/2014/04/13/fermented-feed-faq/

I've never used a medicated feed. In fact, I never use any pharmaceutical medications at all...just completely natural stuff. They all get probiotics, vitamins and raw apple cider vinegar (ACV) in their water from hatch for the first four weeks. And when I ferment their feed, I often add either ACV into the food or whey poured off from the Greek yogurt we eat. (Sometimes I just given them some of the yogurt...but don't tell my son.
