A Bielefelder Thread !

One girl starting laying at a bit over 5 months. Her first egg is plain and her second egg is the one with spots. I think she will stop laying and then start again later on, so im not going to switch the feed to layer yet. Oh and they weighed 48g and 46g and she laid both in 3 days.

Wow. They look so diff. Are both really from the same pullet? My Bieles just started laying but I can't tell the eggs apart yet. (I only know if I actually catch one laying.) I was hoping to get a layer with freckled eggs, but so far all are just brown.

I'm currently using "all flock" with calcium on the side. I'll probably make the switch when the current supply runs out.

Lovely eggs! And yes, I'm totally jealous. My Biels are 31 weeks old now and still not laying, and the one that used to lay hasn't given me an egg since Sept. 29th. Did I mention that patience is not one of my virtues?

Yep, 100% sure. She was squawking really loudly almost all day both times. She was running all around and squatting in many different places. I found the eggs in the same place too, lol. All that running around just to lay it in the same place! I tried showing her to the nesting box, i even have realistic fake eggs in there, but nope.

Patience isn't one of my virtues either! I think the same thing will happen to me, she is going to pop out a few, then stop. The other girls aren't even looking like they will lay any time soon, their combs and wattles are really small compared to the one who is laying. The rooster was very happy, he was laying next to her making these cute little clucking noises the 2nd time around! He wants some babies i think.

I heard my lone Buff Silkie hen making a fuss one morning and saw my beloved Bosch mating with her.

They're both larger than bantam, but not quite as big as my large breeds.

That is SO good to hear!!! We have a wonderful, kind Biele roo we would just love to have mate with our bantam faverolles, but we were wondering if that would physically be possible (or if the pullets might get squashed

)

We're also wondering (I know this sounds silly) if there's a risk that the hens would start producing eggs too big for them to lay safely? I mean, imagine a bantam fav hen trying to lay a biele-sized egg?

And would the offspring size be an average of the two breeds, somewhere in the middle?

So many questions! We're just so excited to have found someone that has done a Biele/bantam cross
