A BYC CHANGE OVER REALITY. All need to read.

A quick thought on perspective:

Kstavin has mentioned how upset people were when we converted from the really old system we were on 6 years ago to the system we were on over the last 5 years. Well, wrap your heads around this:

I can guarantee that if in 1 month... just 30 days, if we were to post: "Sorry, we made a mistake, we're going back to the old platform." and then made the change

PEOPLE WOULD FREAK OUT!

Not a little bit of freaking... we're talking END OF THE YEAR MYAN CALENDAR kinda freaking out!

So, take the BYC challenge! Use the new system for 30 days and we'll see what % of the members would like to go back to the way things were... including limited upload space, limited PM space, etc.

Just thought it was some interesting perspective.

So, who's going to take the BYC Challenge?

Not me... I already know I like it....change back to the old crap and I will leave

ETA: IMO it is worth it for unlimited space & PMs....I have had to delete a LOT of PMs that I wish I had for references.

Speak English for crying out loud!! I'm sick and tired of hearing this sort of corporate-type TopDown GeekSpeak!!!!

"Rack issues down" What the RoosterAction (F***) does this mean??! "Categorize" is spelled with an "e" and the last sentence is VAGUE.

Y'all need to remember that a lot of chicken-keepers out here aren't exactly tech-geeks!

Please have those people contact support so their issues can be addressed. Complaining to you does nothing to improve or catagorize consensus. That and issues need details to rack issues down.

I would frankly be quite happy with the old format even if it were on a new and larger server.

You guys did too much top-down management and failed to consider the rural community in all this.

Serious mistake, considering this is a CHICKEN forum and not a forum about Downtown restaurants or health clubs....

I'm still learning where everything is but no way would I want to go back. Plus everyone is so helpful when you have a problem, even if it turns out it's something simple. I do have my senior moments LOL and being blind in one eye doesn't help. It's the people that make this community great. I take off my hat to all of us. We Rock!!!!

I think the new BYC is just fine. I had a heads up it was coming and time to mentally prepare. I don't like change, but it is often, as in this instance, for the good. In a few weeks everybody will be used to it and life will go on.

I am still learning my way around, but like what I am seeing so far. I understand there are many who are frustrated by the changes, especially the ones who have been using the old forum for several years, but I am really surprised at all the negative comments to Rob and the rest of the crew.
My husband and I were talking on Tuesday when the site was down and so many were getting impatient and thinking it should be back up a lot faster than it was. I was giving him a synopsis of the situation. He made a great point. He asked me, "Are they paying for this forum?" I told him we were not. That we could buy memberships for certain privileges, but the forum was free. He then said, "If anyone realized how much it costs to run a forum that size, even one that has ad-support, and how much it cost to have people change it over, they would probably complain a little less. It isn't free. It isn't cheap. And someone is paying for it.
He made a great point. We should all be grateful we still have a forum to come to. Without this forum, , I probably wouldn't have a flock of chickens laying their first eggs. It is worth it to me to take some time and learn my way around.
Thanks, everyone for all your hard work and sleepless night!

For me you've succeeded in making things confusing and frustrating. I'm not sure what the point is for all the changes, but please discontinue my membership. If in the future I need to come back I'll renew it.
We're only, what, 36 hours into the new site? Things like this take a while to shake out. You build a new coop and after its done you discover a little leak in one corner of the roof, a window sticks, a faucet drips, and a feeder needs to be moved over a few inches and you realize that if the main door was moved over 4 feet it would be more convenient. Fine, you make a punch list, prioritize the problems, and start to address them; you don't just get frustrated and abandon it.

A site like this is an incredibly complex thing, it's a real balancing act; each time you make a tweak or fix you have to test it in 5 different platforms and 7 different browsers, and you'll still miss something. We can't expect total instant gratification, we need some patience. It WILL get better, Nifty has a team working hard to give us what we want.

If after 36 days (not 36 hours) you still really hate it, fine, but please, give them a bit of a grace period.

Thank you Nifty for your wonderful website. I never forget that I am a guest here in your "home." You have so much to deal with and I commend you on your eloquence and patience!

Thank you for the uplifting happy environment you have provided for us to enjoy our poultry hobby. You and all the moderators do a very good job at keeping the site as family friendly as you can and I am very grateful as our younger generation means a lot to me.

I am enjoying the new website whilst learning how to use it, and already have noticed several features that I am glad are present.

Thank you moderators for all the encouragement and advice. Your well-doing is noticed by us all and we can never express our gratitude enough I feel.

Thank you also all the members of BYC for giving me a place to come to enjoy my chicken-keeping hobby, to hear your talk, to learn, and to listen.

I will forever be grateful for this pristine place on internet to visit....

That's the same type of tone and comment that people made 5 years ago. "You're making a terrible mistake!" "You failed to consider xxx yy!!!" "This is going to be the end of BYC!" "BYC will never be the same!!!"

Well, that was about 113,271 members ago.

This isn't our first rodeo, but if anybody has as much experience with running a community half our size, and wants to lend their experience, we're more than willing to hear it. That isn't to say we aren't listening to everyone, but if we headed every person who said, "You don't know what you're doing" then BYC wouldn't have even made it to the last platform we were on.

So, we'll keep listening to everyone, but at the end of the day our team collectively love this community more than anybody and will do what we know is best for the long-term strength and growth of our wonderful family.
