A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I agree. When I first got my turkeys, I was so enamored, that I started to think the chickens were boring. But then after a while, I got excited about the chickens again and now I have some favorites of both.

I made am error, When I was talking about Ethel Jr. It was not Ethel Jr. It is either Ethel or Ethel Jr's daughter that looks so different. I found Ethel Jr today, she looks like herself still

Here is Ethel the 3rd...

OH MY GOSH RALPHIE! SHE IS GEORGOUS!!!!!!

I had a long day today looking for a missing turkey. My lavender Palm hen, Swan, was missing at bedtime last night. I looked all over with a flashlight in the dark. I couldn't find her roosting in any tree, but I was able to satisfy myself that there were no trails of feathers anywhere, either. But she didn't show up in the morning.

I searched my entire 4 acres, put ads on Craigslist, and was about to print out some flyers to put around the local subdivisions, when my next door neighbor called. Her son has a friend in the closest subdivision. The friend's mom saw a posting on their HOA message board that someone found a white turkey. (There's a photo of Swan standing on their porch)

Friend's mom called my neighbor, who called me, and after a lot of relaying, my number eventually made it to the poster, who then called me directly. But she didn't have Swan any more!

Apparently, Swan had been wandering down the middle of their street yesterday and then seen them putting Christmas lights on their house. When they called to her, she raced over to them. Poor lost bird must have been so happy to see a human being. They said she was extremely friendly and came right up on their porch for attention.

But they didn't know what to do with her and were worried a coyote might get her in the night, so they called animal control. A police officer came and got her and took her to a nearby wildlife rehab place. When the woman finally got ahold of me, she gave me the rehab number, and then I was able to arrange to go pick up my bird.

I'm SO glad to get her back alive and safe! It did take me all day and I got nothing else done. And she had to fight her way back into the pecking order after her 24 hour vacation.
Now to try to find a way to teach the dummy to stay at home. She might think it's fun to go help put up Christmas lights. And ride in police cars. And have slumber parties at hawk and owl rehabs. I just hope she's too stupid to remember how she got over there!

Finnie! Wow! Swan had quite the adventure! So glad you got her back! Now that officer driving around with a turkey peering out of the window had to have been hysterical!
