It was in the 40°s two days ago. Today the high was 15°F and it is now -4°F.

R2elk...we've had huge temperature swings all winter. Its been a strange winter.

So, anybody have any thoughts about why turkeys seem to seek out & enjoy human contact? Just thinking about Aurora's story about Eve. And my own experience with two hens who were older when I got them and quickly turned into lappers. At first, I thought it was food motivated, like my chickens. Then I thought it was because I have no toms. Or maybe they are just smarter than I thought and figured out how to manipulate me! Remember I've trained performance dogs for 30 years so I'm exceedingly interested in behavior. Just curious to hear ya'll's has a take on turkey behavior.....

If they are 6 months old, they all appear to be hens. At that age, any toms would have bald heads and all of these appear to have the hen's "mohawk".

Thats why I asked about age....they looked like hens to me too. Pretty girls!

Do hens sometimes fluff/fan like a tom? The black and one of the palms have done that--but their snood didn't grow like the Toms...
