A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Tryin to make someone understand that
A. 12-16 ounces of wild birdseed for SIX hens a DAY is in fact NOT a treat..... And...B. That makes it even harder when other peoples are sayin oh yea on byc here lookit is a thread ALL bout how yea it is OK for them to eat..... Oh my. Lol. And uhhh yea no wonder why your birdies stopped layin.:lau:barnie:he

Then in other news. This boy californian bun... he is randy and has not one but two ladies put in his pen today and decides after a few minutes of chasin the ladies round he is just gonna sprawl out a bit in the sunnyshines. :pop. Uhhh no buddy get.to.work.already! Lol. The mini rex in the pen next door is all pissed and pullin out king henry (californian) fur through the fence. We are pretty sure he was sayin hey buddy get your sorry ass busy! If you won’t do the job i am MORE than willin and ready over here. Send me the ladies right.very.now!

This week we also put up the portable fence we used for the meaties by the chicken run so they could play in the woods by their run. They have SO enjoyed it. Barely a peep all day long cept for the rustlin of the leaves they are kickin round in there. And gah it smells SO good over there. I just wanna go sit and sniff with my sniffer the freshly turned earth they are makin. (In the garden is my happy place). The brahma rooster has started bein all loud and proud bout callin the ladies to him now also. His voice is super deep and rumbly.. almost a purr....but still not a peep even of a crow from him. I wanna hear him crow and then i think maybe not cause he won’t shuddup. Lol.

Road Runner let us pet her tonight! We were givin everyone the once over and she just stood there like the big sisters tonight. :love. She even chatted away at us... not sure if she was callin us bad names or happy chitterin lol. But she seemed content for several minutes of touchin and not bein held for inspection.

This is my couch partner for tv and knittin time tonight. He is a tiredy boy.

I heard from @JRNash a little while ago. This is what he said!

"....I'm in Demolition mode right now. I couldn't stand being away any longer so I put up a tent stuck air mattress and a.c. in it and come home!!! Nothing like CRAZY with a plan!!!! Still nothing from FEMA. Our little neck of the woods is at the bottom of the totem pole I'm thinking. Baaaa!! Who needs the feds anyway!!

There are close to 50 chickens running around. half look to be roosters! There are also about 7 Toms but only two hens made it.

Let everyone know I'm still kicking. I miss all of y'all!!"

This is the pic of the turkeys! I told him to SEND MORE PICS! i told him they appear to be in pretty good shape for what they have been through.

Thanks for the update .. glad to hear how he and his are doing.

Hey folks sorry I haven't been on much this year. I finally bought two log skidders back in April and a D6 Caterpillar Dozer in September managed to haul 3800 board feet to the mill and make $2000 profit for the year.

We raised 3 Heritage birds though we thought we bought 5 (lost one, and the other turned out to be a broad breasted white) so we have two Bourbon Reds and a Royal Palm. I lost Neptune 3 days before my first Skidder arrived so it was a bitter sweet moment

Hahhahaa. Beautiful grey boy was doin the duty today... MISTER ROO jackass was NONE to pleased. He was so mad that all he could do was run up and down the fence right past the OPEN gate back and forth til ole grey came struttin in...... then it was game on. Mister jerkface chased him round and round the run til ole grey went on the lam out in the new part... back with the ladies. Jerkface then had chook him some poor unsuspectin ladies to him so he could do the deed too. Males are silly!

The turkeys thought they might try ignore me when i went out to them... then they saw red treats in me hand.... and changed their tune real quick and in a hurry. Hahahhahaha. Cut up maters made for some happy chatterin hens. They told me all bout their day and how cletis is just a puffed up ole fool and how he saved them from the ups, mailman and some random people wantin persimmon pulps today.

Well my two spoiled turkey hen divas have a 14" wide platform 12" above finished floor from which they hop up onto their 2×4 roost which is another 12" stair-stepped above said platform. The reasoning is they dont have to hop down very far all at once....avoiding a hard or damaging landing. This set up is 6'wide, allowing 3 feet per bird. They also like to lounge on the wide 14" platform. This, along with their economically designed nest boxes, have put all my design skills to a test. All to prevent crumpled tail feathers and an accident dismounting their roost. Have I gone too far?
