A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I saw 2 successful matings today. Pebbles with the big red guy (Tommy) and Romeo with Cuddles. It looks like those two boys are going to give each other a hard time over mating. Tommy knows that Romeo is the boys and will kick his butt but he's also bigger than Romeo so he's been getting braver about Challenging him. I'm sure masons will happen more peacefully once everyone's not being cooped up anymore. I'm fed up with winter already.

I'm thinking of reducing my turkey flock a bit too make a little room for a couple peafowl maybe. Azul will need to go since I want to keep Mister. Romeo is a given, he gets to stay. I really don't want to get rid of Tommy since he's rather friendly and a big beautiful boy but I only have 8 girls and I'm thinking of cutting that back to 6. There are going to be some tough choices to be made.

Ohhh....that's tough....cutting down the flock.

Currently getting a bunch of snow. I can't believe it. We've had ice/snow on the ground here since last Friday. That never happens. We have no snow removal capabilities. My chickens hate it. I opened my turkey pen and they've been wandering around. They don't care. But they look miserable. They need snow boots & leggings.

My flock has been locked up again since last Friday. The chickens don't mind since they hate the snow but the geese are mad. They want out! The turkeys don't seem to mind being locked up. Usually, I would let them out but since I have my Marans in with them, I keep it closed. It looks like my poor roo in there is still going to lose the points on his comb from frostbite anyway. We're getting another 2-4 inches today.... I'm done with snow.

Gluglu....those babies are too cute!

Looks like you're about 2/3rds through it, how much did you get? Just started here with sunrise an hour and a half away. Trying to decide if I should drive to the airport now or wait for sunrise...

Congratulations on your all snow.

Got about 2 inches deep here light and powdery.

Temps here though were -8 this morning with -30 wind chills.
Enjoy your heat wave

Peafowl are a lot like turkeys, but not quite as naturally friendly, in my experience. It pays to get them young and raise them by hand.
Make sure any close neighbors are on board with the noise though. Turkey gobbles feel "natural", but peacock screams are in a whole different class.
I will probably have peachicks to sell this year, I have been hoarding the few I've hatched and now my second flock is about as large as I can deal with, so I prob will sell all the ones I hatch this year.
