A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

LOL, i only meant how many seramas

Oh  lol. I have 6 total adults, 4 ladies and 2 gentlemen. Then I have 6 babies. One is shaping up to be a beautiful little pullet (hatched in December). I sold her brother. I have 1 other person waiting on a cockerel so I'm waiting to see if any of the others are boys. I'll be keeping the smallest of the girls and selling the bigger ones.

oh my gosh!! did one of them go flying? :lau :lau

More like skidding across the counter lol.

Wow his legs DO look awesome then! We had do ivermectin for cletis and his didnt look nearly as good. Hahha on the dryer! I jus dont even bother with the dryer on my hound. He despises that thing. There is a local lady that has the blrw but gah she sells em for an arm and leg. :(.

I'm going to take another picture of his legs later on. Another big chunk of junk came off today. I think I'll take a daily pic till he's totally healed to see the change.

Getting ready to set my first batch of turkey eggs tommorow. My parents have fixed up an old brick house, my dad called it a bachelor house because it is basically a 10x15 brick shed from the 1940s. Could even possibly be a homestead shack, it's hard to tell, but it got a new life as a dedicated incubator and brooder house. We will see how it goes.

@memphis Easter is a bronze. With a bad attitude.

Easter is the one showing off on the deck. The rest are just enjoying Judy's day at work and waiting for me to throw them their deck treats.

The WWD still has not figured out why there is always so much turkey poop on the deck. I find it a mystery too. The picture is about 2 minutes old.

I don't even feed my turkeys on the deck and they still like hanging out on the railings. And I've seen how close your turkey coop is to your house, so it's pretty much guaranteed they would be hanging out there even without bribing. And the wild bird feeders probably have a cleanup crew making the rounds under them too.
My lurkeys love to watch us in the house from the deck. It's one of their favorite activities, like watching fish in an aquarium.

I have a turkey hen that makes a daily trip to the bird feeder-----when I say trip to the feeder, I mean she flies the 8 feet up lands on the feeder tray and cleans it out. We have stopped using the tray because she prefers the bird seed to her own feed.

BTW it is mentioned weekly that I could move the birds further from the deck and there is no reason they have to be that close to the house, except I like them there.

I trained my original turkeys to stay off of the deck. As the group of young ones came the older turkeys taught them to stay off of the deck. On a rare occasion I need to reinforce their training. Two weeks ago I looked out the door onto the deck just as the yearling Blue Slate tom reached the top step. Upon seeing me, he immediately turned and ran down the stairs. It was hilarious watching a turkey run down 16' of stairs as fast as he could go. Normally he would have chosen to fly but my sudden appearance prevented him from getting into launch position.

Any hints on getting more eggs from your hens. I currently have 18 hens but I have only gotten a max of 3 eggs in a day. I am currently feeding them a mix of barley fodder and layer pellets. There also is a light on in the coop all night long. I really need some more eggs for when I start hatching.
Any tips???

My turkeys get a mix of turkey grower and layer mash plus free choice grit and oyster shell and a little scratch grains including field peas. When I can get it, I top dress with a little dried kelp for extra minerals. For lights, I turn them on at 6am and turn them off at 10 when I go to bed, they need beauty sleep. Check for parasites and treat accordingly. It is still a bit early in the season, but my turkeys start laying about now when I start supplementing light. Don't forget your protein! Turkeys need more than chickens, and that's why I mix in turkey grower with my layer mash, since turkey layer isn't offered here.
