A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

One of the ladies on another thread cans chicken
@BullChick can you give us some feedback on canned meats?
It’s awesome! If you can an old chicken, the meat will still be stringy. There’s no getting around that. But I canned a turkey, and began using the meat in everything just because it was so handy. It’s also delicious because it’s nice and moist. Btw, you don’t have to add water/broth when canning raw meat. It makes its own broth.
I also use the pressure canner to make stock. It takes about ninety minutes.

We have our first bug eyed baby! Came home from being or taxes done and running errands to find the first turkey poult of the year :) One more egg is pipped but no signs of anything from the 3rd egg. Pictures once I can get them out!

As far as building Tommy his own pen, I think hubby would have something to say about that. The turkeys are sort of a fun thing for us that just happens to make some money. We Like to keep a peaceful flock of friendly loving birds and I really don't want to break them into 2 groups. Ideally, I'd like to cut back to just a few and only keep the friendliest ones (the favorites), breeding a couple each year for ourselves to eat. I think Eve would be the only red girl I would be keeping, then Pebbles, Sweet Pea, Princess, Cuddles, Pirate, Romeo and Mister. They'd give me a good variety of colored poults with some penciling thrown in.
