These are my youngest boys. They avoid the adults and the older boys as they are quite advanced in the snood pulling game. That cockerel was one of the mentor chicks, who refuses to sleep with the chickens at night and instead sleeps with the older boys, but he's also the best at taking care of his girls and super alert to predators. When that jake gets to be a tom he will remember that cockerel and get his revenge.. if the cockerel is still around.
This weekend's turkey hatch. Looks like 2 penciled babies and a red head

I use big plastic totes as nest boxes for the turkeys. The higher sides discourage the toms from bothering the hens and I don't have to build anything, just shavings or hay/straw bedding. It's big enough their tails stay nice, and I have the grit hopper propped against the side so it doesn't tip when they stand on the lip of the tote.Question: my hens were born in August and are just now around 7 months. Will they lay this year? Soon?
Need to build a few nest boxes and we are wondering when to get them done by. It’s just been so rainy/snowy it’s hard to cut wood with the power tools and no covered area to do so!
