A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Hi Phill98. Nice to see next generation breeders in Europe, not so far from me. I`d recommend you to use 10-12 hens to a tom, it`s working good for me. I have 80 hens wich i plan to reproduce this spring. A lot of work for me. Also i plan to buy some 1 day turkey poults, few hundreds at least and can`t find heritage seller in Romania :(

Congrats on the babies Bantam bird.

Got home after dark. Usually the girls put themselves to bed in their coop if I'm late. But tonight they were asleep on my backporch rail. Had to log each half asleep bird to their coop & place them on their roost. The nice thing about bonded birds....they just murmured little tweets as I grabbed each one. At least I got a few hen hugs. Boy they are a bit chunky this time of year...

Geez...I was just reading about someone's chicken that got frozen to the coop roof. They got her off, took her inside to warm a bit...but geez!! Sure hope everyone is staying warm...
So far so good
Tomorrow is my cold day
High of -13 but that's just after midnight and the temp drops and high winds. Wind chill of-50s
I can hardly wait
Poor birds

From a weather page:hit

ARCTIC ASSAULT UPDATE:

I can't believe I am saying this, but the latest data indicates that we will be even colder than previously expected, especially tomorrow night. I think Chicago away from the lake has a shot at -30 degrees. Even worse, some areas in northern Illinois may be in the -35 to -40 range. Keep in mind, Chicago's coldest temperature EVER was -27. That record will fall. The coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Illinois is -36. I think that record will fall tomorrow night, somewhere west of Chicago. I expect this to be recorded in one of the small towns surrounded by corn fields in north central Illinois. You can be 80 or 8 years old. You've never felt cold like this if you've been here your entire life.

Wow! I've NEVER been in weather that cold. I know Chicago is all over the national news. I didn't realize your eye corneas can freeze in that kind of weather. And not to take deep breaths for fear of damaging your lungs. Freaking me out!
Ha this would be normal weather for the northern states and Canada
But I am not a fan.
My poor birds

We had 40-something below, like, 15 years ago here... I was in bed, but the thermometer recorded it. It was cold enough in the morning. I am okay with having missed the hopefully once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience this historic event. :wee

Keep the fire burning, guys, and don’t lick any flagpoles!
