A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Are y’all saying caruncle growth on a poult predicts sex? I went out and looked at mine. One of the more caruncled ones started strutting. So cute!
Male turkeys will develop much bigger and heavier caruncle growth at a younger age than will turkey hens. It is one of the hints. No one hint is guaranteed to predict the sex but when all of the hints start pointing to the same results, it can be very accurate.

The two remaining of my now 6 week old Sweetgrass poults look to be one male and one female. They aren't even losing their head feathers yet but the one has heavier legs and is bigger. It is starting to lose its head feathers while the slightly smaller one is not losing head feathers yet and just "looks" daintier.

Because there is a dominant tom here, the little ones are remaining quite subdued and no strutting is being done by any of them.

Did she make the little keets lie on their backs?
Nope. I held them back side up and she twisted her ring over them, telling me exactly which set they were,..

I think she took 4 girls and a boy, leaving me with all boys to take home..

A couple of the boys self identified as girls and started laying eggs the next summer.

Apparently I have the ability to pick out female keets when I am selling them. On more than one occasion, the people getting keets from me ended up with all female keets leaving me with all male keets. It certainly is not intentional.
