Male turkeys will develop much bigger and heavier caruncle growth at a younger age than will turkey hens. It is one of the hints. No one hint is guaranteed to predict the sex but when all of the hints start pointing to the same results, it can be very accurate. Are y’all saying caruncle growth on a poult predicts sex? I went out and looked at mine. One of the more caruncled ones started strutting. So cute!
The two remaining of my now 6 week old Sweetgrass poults look to be one male and one female. They aren't even losing their head feathers yet but the one has heavier legs and is bigger. It is starting to lose its head feathers while the slightly smaller one is not losing head feathers yet and just "looks" daintier.
Because there is a dominant tom here, the little ones are remaining quite subdued and no strutting is being done by any of them.
