I have never had a hen abandon a poult. I have had hens try to steal poults from each other. I rarely let a hen raise poults unless they are already a couple of weeks old and I find a hen willing to adopt them.

I wonder if something is wrong with it that they dumped it. Usually when a poult screams for help all the hens come running...It is About 3 wks old I think.

That’s weird. If they were going to abandon it because somethings wrong with it, I would think it would be before 3 weeks.

Or a willing Tom, that wants to raise kids.

One of the toms threw it off the roost last night...he is coming to dinner soon...

I had a Tom a couple years ago that was really into being a Dad. He would put his wing over the poults to keep them warm. Snuggle with them when they started roosting.

He even tried hatching a nest of golf balls..

I have either a coyote or wolf with young just below the hill. Pearl and them just had a shouting howling match. Neither was happy with the other.

The oldest tom will keep poults warm, but not this one.
