Are those darker hens from Porters and the lighter birds your own?
The lighter birds are all descended from crossing a light colored tom from Porter's with Royal palm hens.

There is only one dark hen from Porter's. The 2 dark ones on the ground are both toms from Porters. From a batch of 5, 4 turned out to be toms and only one hen.

The Recessive Slates turned out to be 7 toms and one hen.
 
There is one Blue Slate. All the rest are Sweetgrass. There are no Blacks.
I meant the black feathers. Saying “the way their feathers go from light brown/tan to black is so beautiful” felt like it would take too long. Maybe i’m wrong, but in the lighting it looks like they have black backs. I do think it’s a very pretty color combination though.

They are far from being black backed. The feathers are multicolored and include many different iridescent colors such as gold, green, pink. It is all dependent on the lighting.
