A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Supplemental light is the key. I do not provide supplemental light. The earliest that my turkeys will lay is the middle of March.
The person who got eggs didn't have supplemental light in the coop.... but they live in a town. So maybe streetlights or neighbors yard lights.

At least one other member established that their yard light was the supplemental lighting that was messing up their turkey's laying cycle.

More southern members with their longer daylight hours in the fall and spring can also have turkeys laying out of season.

I got my first turkey egg of the season yesterday! I have seen breeding going on but still didn't expect it so soon. I'm not positive who laid it but it looks like my incubator will be getting fired up here soon!

Earliest any of my birds have started laying was the 1st week of March, but they mostly start laying mid-March. All laying heavily by 1st week of April. I also have a few hens that will lay up till Thanksgiving.

Having a heat wave right now after arctic blast. All the boys are thinking its breeding time all showing off for the gals. Such wishful thinking on their part:lau

So yours don't always strut and act like every month of the year is breeding time? I'm quite jealous, honestly. I may have only one smart male who knows when and when not to strut, the others have spent months drumming and strutting around the yard, even after the last breeding season ended.

Ya there is always a few that just can't seem to give up, but they are not 24-7 like during breeding season. During breeding season some don't do anything, but strut hardly seem to eat or anything but show off for the girls.

All the turkeys are happy and thanking me for what they believe I'm spoiling them with treats. But in reality, it's just the wet pellet mash from a few of the outside feeders from the all-night rain :lau
And I normally feed soaked food. so when I need to get them to move somewhere I throw dry and have a stamped. 😂
