A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I am trying to figure out what I can use for egg racks, without buying any, I did not see any in mine.

Cardboard egg cartons cut up screw with humidity.

I was wonder if foam ones work, or do they cut down air flow.

I am thinking of putting a window in mine.. I actually am thinking of double pane after R2elk said he did that to his.

I do like the idea of an easy thermostat.

The window should be easy cut a hole and glue a Plexiglas over said hole.

I've heard that about the egg flats and humidity. I've also heard that the foam ones do mess with air getting to the eggs. I'll probably manage to order some trays this weekend but that still means probably another week after that until they get here.

Maybe we'll do the window, I don't know. I've been looking forward to getting one for so long that I'm afraid of screwing it up lol

So, I tried placing my new bator in my corner of the bedroom (said corner is considered mine since I have both hovabators and the brooder there. I confiscated this spot). It was no good, too big! I could fit it in, but then the door opened the wrong way and if I turned it the other way, the heat vent and brooder were in the way. I hope hubby won't mind my new placement of it when he gets home from work.....right in the living room lol. It's holding a steady temp right at 100° :)

For chicken eggs, look on ebay for "Stabil Incubator Plastic 48 Egg Tray" they fit the metal trays in a 1202 and let you fit 96 eggs per tray (=288 eggs total). It can be hard to fit large turkey eggs in that, but I manage by interspersing them with smaller chicken eggs.

If I didn't have a window, I would cut one as mentioned, but until I got brave enough for that, I'd use a humidistat with a wireless remote.

I want a big incubator!! But I am stuck with my small 68 egg bator. Oh well at least I have become pro at hatching with it!!

What I envisioned was remanufacturing my turner trays from the other incubators and raising them off the floor of the incubator.

I was thinking I would need to add a fan to make sure the temps are correct.

Before I hatch everything I want to check temps on each level including the bottom. I think I will buy a new thermostat before I put an egg in it too so I don't lose a ton of eggs. Maybe even an extra fan.

I would hate to lose eggs to something simply I could have prevented.

BTW it appears by taking one row off the farm innovator turner trays I can slip them into the 1202.

I appreciate you telling me the bottom hatcher area runs cooler. that has to be changed/fixed if my idea works.

Thanks on the hatcher tray having to be out also!

If you do make a turner tray to set on the bottom, make sure that it does not interfere with the trays that turn.

You do realize that the 1202 has a fan and is a forced air incubator. I have had my incubator for at least 25 years and never had any problems with the fan.

The temperature wafers do go bad from time to time.

You can replace the thermostat with a digital controller such as this one which will control to within +/- 0.1°F.

Good luck.

Just got back from Salt Lake City. There was snow everywhere. ...ug! Caught up with posts. Ya'll nuts! I can't imagine hatching hundreds of eggs at once! Aurora, since you new Bator is going to be a design element in your living room....PAINT IT!

Ralph...is yours still in your van? Are you decorating your living room with it too?

It's pretty exciting. ...all these babies to be! R2elk...when will you start setting

I will start setting chicken eggs the first of March. Turkey eggs should get set the last week of March or the first of April. The guinea eggs should get set the middle to end of April.

Where did you get the "spydor controller"?

That seems like a smart move.

I got the Spyder controller at

http://spyderrobotics.com/home/products.html

I got the Herpstat 1 Basic because I wanted a grounded unit although there isn't anything to ground to on the 1202 model.

Heating element connection

I removed the top of the incubator to access the rear chamber in order to separate the heating element and controller from the electrical supply to the fan and auto-turner. You can accomplish the same thing by removing the back of the incubator. I cannot provide any images of the change in wiring in the back compartment because I did not take any photos at the time and do not feel like opening up the back section again.

Hope this is helpful to you. The on/off switch is not necessary but I like it better than having to pull the plug to shut the unit off. For the Spyder controller I just unplug the electric cord from the back of the controller when I am not using it. I always turn the fan on before I plug the cord back into the controller.

The same can be accomplished much cheaper by using the STC-1000 rather than the Spyder controller. The Spyder controller does allow you to apply an offset to the temperature probe's reading . I found my probe reading to be approximately 0.3°F low so I am using their temperature adjustment to keep the temperature right on the money.

Good luck.
