A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Hi all,,, well Porter is Mine :) ... Ralphie and Judy brought him over yesterday and he is all snuggled in the corn crib. He hasn't eaten much but is guzzling a ton of water. I Love hearing him gobble every time I walk outside. He sure likes to let me know he sees me. When I walk over to him he comes up to the wire but then will back up and he looks so sad. I hope he will trust me soon I feel bad he is all by himself. He is so beautiful and big he is a little intimidating so I'm trying not to act nervous around him. He definitely looks like he could do some damage. Well goodnight all I will keep u all posted ...

Congratulations! You two week get aquainted soon enough and I'm sure you will bond. A ton can be intimidating. I remember when I first brought Adam home. I was very nervous around him because he was SO much bigger than my hens that I was used to. It didn't take long to get over that. I'm sure he'll be so happy when he has some ladies to look after :)

So, a young family came and bought 5 poults off me tonight. They had a little 2 year old boy. I had a lot of fun showing him the big turkeys and chickens. He was really fascinated with the big turkeys lol. They were rather confused about what the small thing in their coop was. Eve was a good sport and let him pet her while I held her :) I love sharing turkeys with other people!

That's a nice story. I find that one of the best parts about breeding birds is the visits by my customers when they come to get their birds. (Parakeets, but when I start selling poultry, it will probably be similar.)

Aurora - I cannot believe how many eggs you're incubating :D So neat being able to share birds with people!

Coffee - Exciting that you have Porter now. You will have Porter following you everywhere soon I'm sure. I've really enjoyed figuring out my birds and what makes them tick - you'll have a great time with him as you get to know each other :)

Just Dishy - I'm so sorry to hear about Penny :hugs

Memphis - good to have you back, hope the trip was a good one. I'm sure your girls have talked your ear off and filled you in about their time without you :p

Good for Eve! Aurora, it's cool when folks meet a turkey for the first time.

Good luck to all you hatchaholics! Some of you need help....you know who you are!

Coffee!! Congrats on getting Porter. Finally!! Please don't be intimidated. Get a chair & some treats & spend time with him. How did your chickens adjust to the move?

Porter will do fine, He has never seen as much straw as he has to laze about in now. He is semi friendly and may never be a lapper, besides he is a little on the large side for her lap.

I have been keeping people out of my birds, and hatching areas. I hate it. I know the state wants it, but it takes the fun out of raising birds. I like showing them to people and seeing old and young alike smile and grin when they see or hold a bird....in that respect NPIP stinks,,IMO
