A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Since you guys are very certain that he's a boy, we've changed his name to Prince. Hubby actually got to see the little strut this morning and had to laugh

You can always try the method that Ralphie found to see whether it confirms it or not.

I only have one poult that hatched from my bought eggs. One poult is not enough statistical evidence to prove whether or not it works but using this method and the laying on its back position seem to confirm that the poult I hatched is a hen.

Hey ya'll. Been traveling again. Uggg....

Aurora....those pouts are amazing! I wanna see that baby strutting!

Feisty....your poultry pile-up cracked me up! Annie crawled into a nest box with one of my broodies. The funny thing was watching that Australorp trying to roll that big egg between her legs!

Ralphie...did that lone poultry hatch?

Coffee...how is Porter doing?

Mabel has laid 3 eggs so far. I think I am going to set up a nest and put them in there so she maybe she will start laying in there. And maybe just maybe she will hatch out some poults.

Good grief, it's definitely broody season. I think that I've successfully discouraged my two broody chickens. I've been blocking the nest boxes at night, forcing everyone to sleep on the roosts - and it seems to have worked. Coco has been spending way too much time in the nest box lately so I've continued to block the turkey nest box at night (never thinking that she could fit in the raised chicken boxes). When I went to let them out this morning, Coco had herself stuffed in a chicken box with the back half of her hanging out of it. She had to be hanging on by her toenails to keep her front in there  I wish I had my camera with me, it was quite the sight :gig

This may seem like a stupid question - but can you break a turkey brood like a chicken brood? I don't want her losing a bunch of weight because I have no fertile turkey eggs for her to sit on and hatch....

Just set 25 turkey eggs.

One of my Bourbon has been running in and out of a dog house this morning.

So maybe just maybe I'll get my first Bourbon egg today.

Congrats on everyone's broody that want them.

Ralphie. Too bad the lone egg didn't make it.

Memphis: if your traveling. Hope the trips are enjoyable. Surprised you haven't figured out how to take the girls with you and have a girls road trip just like " them a and louise"

Aurora: congrats on the poults they are cuties.

Feathyr: did all your poults hatch?

Feathyr: did all your poults hatch?
Not yet - three are hatched; four eggs are pipping right now. I don't know if the eighth egg is doing anything; momma hen wouldn't let me see. Yesterday's poults are drinking already.

Good luck with your eggs! Hope you get a Bourbon egg, too.

Landed yesterday in the middle of a storm....always a thrill. By the time I got home the storm has passed & I had time to hang with the hens. Lots of chirping, clucking & wing flapping. We took a walk and kicked the soccer ball around for them. They all sure stick tight after I've been gone a few days. Goofy birds. I know....they are spoiled....

Feedman...get a bourbon egg yet??

Ralphie....what's hatching over there??

Aurora....I think you need to post weekly pics of those mottled babies!

Yes.. one of the Bourbons laid an egg.

Getting 5 to 7 turkey eggs a day.

Out of all my hens. I hope none catch the broody bug for awhile.

My first round of turkey eggs should go in lockdown Monday.
