You can use it to turn a humidifier on and off, or an aquarium pump with stone, or one of the pond foggers. There are a lot of options. I may go to a pond fogger next as I have so much volume in the cabinet, I have a hard time getting above 60% with a little air stone.
I looked on youtube and I don't think it would work with my hatcher. I am getting the humidity up pretty good with mason jars of water along the back of the hatcher so far. But if I ever go to a cabinet bator I will need one of these. Thank you.

I get my humidity at 60% for my hatches here in AL. we have high humidity here all the time.

Quote: I hear ya. I am working now on buying the stuff for automatic barrel water set ups for the pens and coop so that when we go on vacation I can fill up the auto feeders and have the water set up so we can go away for a few days and not have to worry to much. I would still have someone come by to check on them. But at least I would not have to have someone stay here and babysit for us.

I have 126 square inches of water surface in front of a fan, with an air stone, and struggle to hit 60%. But that is a 35-40% increase over ambient humidity.

We did that a couple of years ago, it was the best thing we could have done. Though we did use a garden hose and stock tank valve setup first, if the birds tipped the waterer (turkeys are really good at it, no matter how big a base you build) they could flood the whole coop, now the maximum damage is 55 gallons.

Question time.

How often should or does a turkey lay an egg?

I got 3 yesterday, one the day before, 2 before that, ( I have 3 hens)

and next:

Why do you want 60%, when I read hatching 101, it said maintain between 20-30...

I have eggs in lockdown, so I need to boost humidity. That's the big challenge of combining an incubator and hatcher in the same box. I want to separate them.

Quote: I have been looking at pics of all different kinds. I think I am going to build a frame to hold a 55 gal. barrel outside the pen and coop then have fill lines with floats to keep the 5 gallon buckets full. The barrel will have an intake line and a float to keep it full also. I am not putting a 55 gallon drum in the coop or pens it will be above the pens but not over them. My turkey do not spill their water. When it is very hot I give them a kiddie pool.

When you incubate for the first 25 days of turkey eggs you need the humidity to be between 23-30%. But when you move them or put them in lock down you then need to raise the humidity to 60%.
My hens lay an egg a day for usually 5 days. But they do take 2 days off a week.

My slate girls are odd layers. They would give me 1 egg each for 2 days, skip a day & then give me 2 eggs each the next day (4 eggs from 2 hens, each would lay morning & night) then back to 1 egg for 2 days before skipping & doubling up again. They are a mother & daughter, so tend to lay very similarly & usually on the same schedule. None of my other turkeys have ever doubled up that I have noticed. I usually get 1 egg per hen each day through the main part of the laying season unless someone is trying to go broody.

WalnutHill- Nice set up!

Chickadoodles- Your waterer sounds interesting... be sure to put up pictures to keep us updated!!

Luckily, I have a neighbor kid who watches things for us when we leave. He usually does a pretty good job. We will see how it goes with things this summer...
The garden will be in full swing and the chickens will not be happy about being cooped up in the middle of summer. Or the *hopeful* turkeys.
