I have 7 or 8 new ones it is hard to count them in the hatcher. I have one little one that is not in good shape.

We performed a C-section and should not have. I am having such a bad time with the membrane heat shrinking this year. I have 68% humidity in the hatcher right now, and I have not seen it fall below 55, but they are still heat shrinking. The other problem I am having is too large of chicks for the eggs. Which means I have too much humidity, but I have been trying to keep that at 30 in the incubators.

Anyway the one we did the c section on last night is still alive but weak. We have it in an artificial egg right now. We soaked a paper towel in warm water, oiled the baby with olive oil to limit moisture loss, then wrapped in saran wrap. Keeping the head clear. I think it has a 50/50 chance.

I have both slates and Ethel babies in the hatcher.

I tilled my back field yesterday, I found a busted open Ethel egg in the far end of the field. Which means I have a critter eating eggs. The other day we saw Ethel walking around like she had lost her eggs, I guess she had. Poor Ethel has such a hard time keeping a nest, and hates being in a fence.

Oh no!
I hope the little guy/gal makes it.
How strange about your humidity. Is your heat too high? That may shrink wrap them too. Not that I have been successful. I just googled the heck out of it.

And "oh no" again, for Ethel. I think you should give her some toads. They sound like they are hearty enough they could be the next round of turkens. Turken Toads!

I too was tilling yesterday. I am barely able to move today. But, have to get the plants in.

My temp is actually too low in the hatcher. it is so hard to control temps in these cheap incubators, I have my upper thermometer showing 99/98 degrees and the lower one 96. but if I touch the control it goes up to 102. I would rather have a little low than too high.

Why are you sore after tilling. I admit the beer holder is a reach from the seat, but not enough to make me sore or stop doing it.

That is strange. Wonder why it is so touchy?

My first problem... no beer holder. My second problem... no seat. Our garden is not big enough to need a tractor. At least that is what DH says. We have a riding mower/tractor that can have a tiller attached, he just doesn't see the need for it. Probably because I do the tilling.

Ralph you worry to much about humidity!! I have never used a hygrometer. All I do is put a orange pill bottle full of water in the bator for lockdown and use the channels before lockdown. I have net had a problem.

Do you not know me?

I am old.

I worry about everything. I worry if the sun will come up, go down, or if I will be around to see it go up or down.

I worry about the moon falling out of the sky! And you expect me to not worry about the humidity?

Ralph I use jars or what ever I can find so the poults or chicks can't get in them. But I do not let my humidity go over 60-65% but I try to keep it at 60%! Or they will die from to much humidity and they can't get out.
