So if I have a chance (which I do) to get a couple turkey "mutts" vs a couple "pure" breds for about half the price that might be the way to go?I am not sure there is a best breed, I think they are all pretty much the same bird with different color schemes. I do not think you can get one to hatch in the spring and be ready to eat in November. I have a tom that I 14 months now, he was one of my "daddy" turkeys this breeding season, I am thinking he will be a guest of honor at Thanksgiving time, if his chest fills out.
I am not sure but I think he has put himself on a diet to try and gain another year.
