Ralphie. ..other than meeting your new wife Tuesday, got any other Nashville plans? I think it's the 90ith anniversary of the Grand Ole Opery. There are some interesting civil war sites over there too. Belle Meade & the Carnton Mansion are interesting.

Not sure if you've had time to read some of our posts, but we voted you the Poster Boy for our Turkey Math Hall of fame. I'm sure in your acceptance speech you'll be thanking JJ & Ethel. We are considering Chaos & Aurora for possible inclusion. Of course we are waiting to see how many hens Chaos add, and if he'll get another tom! And of course Aurora is sitting there with three incubators and a DH willing to build more pens!! Fiesty and I are sitting on the sidelines since we are scared to own incubators. And who know what will happen to MM once she divorces her DH over the turkey poop incidents. Sounds like we are in for an interesting hatching season!

Hey Fiesty! Aren't weekends the best? So what breed is the rooster? Interesting that he's not crowing. I had one Australorp hen who I would have bet was a rooster. She developed a huge comb & waddle, much larger than her sisters. I was convinced she was a roo. But she just ended up being a hen with a huge comb!

I go through the same thing with my turkeys. Anything new is suspect! Then eventually thoroughly inspected. I leaned one of those long handled pruning things against a tree yesterday. It was thoroughly inspected for almost an hour!

Turkey Math may be worse that chicken math! I'm voting for Ralphie being our TURKEY MATH POSTER BOY! :lol: Due to his rare and now famous calico flock!

Well the little roo is definitely a boy - still not crowing but he started jumping on the backs of the ladies today. He's a mutt, his mother was an olive egger and that's all we know. He's a very pretty boy and very well behaved at this point - we had no rooster, so he can stay. Might have to add a couple more hens for him one of these days - I'm not sure if 5 will be enough. I hadn't intended to have a rooster - but suddenly I am thinking how cute chicks would be :rolleyes:

Turkeys make me laugh so hard - they really must inspect everything! Their space gets cleaned regularly, but even so, it is subject to a very thorough inspection after every cleaning. If things don't get put back "exactly right" - that generates many gobbles at the offending object and at me. I can't figure out why they aren't using the dust bath area I made them? The chickens love theirs! Any ideas what might make it attractive to my picky turkeys?? It is so muddy outside, I know they aren't bathing out there....
 
Your rooster sounds cute. :)

I added a dust bath to my turkey pen for the same reasons. We have wet winters. They weren't using it until I picked them up & set them in there with some treats. I'm thinking they weren't sure what it was! :rolleyes:

Mine go in the dirt and stomp around - and do nothing else :th I take a shovel in and turn the dirt over to loosen it up every few days after they pack it down - I think they have a bird-brain block over the dust bath. I'll try again tomorrow, maybe I'll fill it with dried meal worms and make them dig for them?
 
:rolleyes: I can't figure out the chicken calculator there's so many variables..... Plus I figured out the more simpler turkey calculator first....... I love my turkeys... Anyone have wild turkeys?
 
Fiesty, I would put them in the bath, they would hop out. But after I added the treats they figured it out.
 
Copper, I think most of us have one kind of heritage breed or another. What chicken calculator are you talking about?
