A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I fully realize I have no business whinning....but it's not getting above freezing here today. Where are you spring?

Yippee! More babies! How many are due to hatch?

I think there's 26 eggs in there. I don't expect them all to hatch as they were in there when I had that temp failure. They're already a day late. BUT there are a few pipped and some rocking and rolling :) first one hatched is actualy going to its new home today. It's a lot sooner than I usually let them go but the lady getting them was supposed to get the one that didn't make it the other day so this one is a replacement. It will go with 3, 1 week olds.

Hello, Memphis, from my experience moving my turkeys to a place with blackhead, the answer to your question about does it show up quickly would be, Yes. . . and No. I think if you put poults, young stock out on infested ground it would show up real quick probably as sudden death of poults. My adults though, were here for quite a while (a year) before one of them got sick, and he was the only one. I asked the vet, he said maybe that tom was the one who really really liked earthworms, maybe the others have developed more resistance by picking up lower doses more slowly, or maybe it was just that the year was so extremely wet and he was just the unlucky one.

If you had a series of relatively dry years, or your turkeys don't care for earthworms, you might never see it until you put poults out.

I have a picture of a mystery chick.

When I pulled the eggs out there was a brown egg in with the blue eggs. My grand daughter helped me set eggs. I am thinking she decided I needed one more egg and forgot to tell me...
