A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Half of the eggs are pipped now and I expect them to be hatched tomorrow. So glad I didn't wait till morning to move them like I had debated. That could've been very bad!

Ralph-you're allowed to laugh at me. I laugh at myself half the time lol. I'm glad that the one that looked almost squished is doing OK.

Thanks, that's helpful. Ducklings are usually started at 22%-24%, but 28% will probably be fine. My problem will be that the high protein can give them wing issues after the first week or two, so i am trying to think of a way to separate the food sources without a separate brooder. No luck yet.

Could i just put the turkey's food up off the ground at week two? would they be able to reach it? They seem a lot more agile and feathered at that age than ducklings (who are the clumsiest birds i have ever met).

That might work but I personally would not brood ducklings and poults together just because the poults will do better in a drier environment than is normally associated with brooding ducklings.

Gevshiba - your hens look so happy with their babies!

Ralph and Aurora - Keep up posting your baby pics :). Ralph - glad the little one was okay.

Roada - your Penny is beautiful. How is she with people?

Well I've given up on Coco hatching any chicken eggs :(. Two eggs disappeared completely and I found the other two in strange places (neither under her), and she had filched two fake eggs from the chicken nest boxes and decided to sit on those instead. I have no idea how she moved them or when she did it (she's very difficult to check on - being a bit of a broody witch).

Any ideas about how to break her broodiness? Is it the same theory as with chickens?

Thankfully Big Bird is still laying and has not decided to play at broodiness again so far :p

I didn't have any luck with turkeys and chicken eggs last year. They'd disappear, get smashed, stolen... Mine will tuck eggs under their wings to move them. This time I waited until the chicken eggs were about to hatch, then stuck them under. We've had no broken turkey eggs and none have disappeared this year. ,

The last turkey that was hatching I brought in because she was pecking at it and so there was one that was ready to start breaking through the shell any minute I can feel it moving around and I can see the beak scraping the shell so I brought that one in and is in the incubator and there is another one but it is farther behind of that one and then there is the last one its air cell is starting to get bigger and slope like the other ones and is starting to feel lighter
