I have been so busy I have not posted a lot.

I think the eggs under Ethel are ruined. apparently 3 hens brooding 8 eggs yields 8 rotten eggs and no babies.

I have chicks hatching on the 11th so I am going to sneak some of those eggs under her. As long as an egg does not peep, I will be fine she is so compliant.


Ethel Jr is ticked off at me. She does not like her cell. She has a 6x6 pen and a 2x4 cubby hole to lay eggs in and make a nest. She clicks and whistles at me whenever I walk by her and not in a good way. Even my Mom said "That hen is mad about something". She can be free as soon as she raises a bunch of poults.

Glad your giving Ethel something to hatch. Would hate for all her hard work come to naught. She sounds a lot like Daisy... I think it's a trust thing.

As far as Ethel Jr.....sounds to me like she doesn't wanna! Can you let her out for awhile? Let just her out & sit there with her with some treats. A bonding opportunity.


So where has Holm been? Any Coffee updates? Did her hen hatch poults??

I brought the solo burbon red hen from my friend's house over the weekend. She was so depressed about be alone she weighed no more than a chicken! She wasn't vocalising in her old home and was very mopey. Now that I brought her here, she has perked up considerably! She even started vocalising! The big Red Tom is pleased with her because the other hens are all broody anyways, so he just stands in front of her enclosure and struts all day. She is eating with gusto, and I know she was just about the loneliest hen around before I brought her to where there are other turkeys! I am going to let her out this coming weekend unless she gives me reason not to.
