Glad your giving Ethel something to hatch. Would hate for all her hard work come to naught. She sounds a lot like Daisy... I think it's a trust thing.

As far as Ethel Jr.....sounds to me like she doesn't wanna! Can you let her out for awhile? Let just her out & sit there with her with some treats. A bonding opportunity.

So where has Holm been? Any Coffee updates? Did her hen hatch poults??

I have no idea where Holm is hiding. I assume he is busy with school year ending and Memorial day weekend stuff.

Ethel Jr was free for over a week after I kicked her off the communal nest. I caught her sneaking into the woods to lay eggs. So she is back in a box. I am short a nest box/cage or the other one would be in a box too. But if I am going to lose a hen to critters, I would rather it be a self blue than Ethel Jr ( a blue red bronze).


Coffee had 5 poults. BUT she has lost them all and it appears the hen too. She saw raccoons there. She is down to just Porter and the one hen. Last I talked to her she was trying to trap or shoot the coons. If she does not get rid of them she will have no birds left. She saw 2 of them.

I let the hen and her 5 babies out for about an hour today for the first time. They enjoyed it, the Mommy went nuts trying to keep them together. I had to lock them up so she did not step on them in her excitement.

They should be blacks, the mother and father were both Blues. So not exactly penguins, and hopefully not such belly buttons.

Nothing under Ethel yet. I wish I knew if she would stay sitting until the 11th, I would give her 5 eggs tonight. If I thought she would sit to the 15th I could give her Guinea eggs....BUT I love Ethel too much top saddle her with Juvenile delinquents.
