A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

. Hey, maybe that's the way to break a broody turkey....stuff a broody hen under her! Feisty....find one of those growling broody hens & stuff her under Big Bird...ya never know!

. Heck, nothing else has worked. ...

So it's already 80 here at 6 in the morning. Humidity is so bad it feels like your walking into a sauna. I know...I'm just whining.
Sorry, no, broody hen under broody turkey doesn't break them. It breaks eggs. Ask me how I know!

I think I broke my chronic broody turkey. I still have some bees in my coop and since I'm a total weeny when it comes to bees, I haven't gone in that part of my coop in 3 days. So, I hadn't seen the hen in 3 days! I was imagining she was dead in there, so I braved the bees to "rescue" her. I pulled the whole nest box (chicken box) out and got her outside. Trust me, she's alive. I stuck her in a crate and took her to my friend's place. She hasn't given that nest a thought since! Well. maybe. I'm not over there. We'll see when I go back to close them in for the night. If she does go broody again, I have eggs in the bator for her. I'm just glad she's off for awhile. She hatched out a couple, but one of the chickens killed them, so she went right back to sitting.

It was like a sauna here, too. Miserable. It's trying to rain now.

We let the turkey Momma and her babies out for a while today. She is a terrible mother. I will be taking the babies away in a week or so. She just ran off and left the babies so she could have sex with JJ, Sidekick and the other Tom. She started a Tom snood pulling, high kicking contest. She did not care two cents for her babies safety.

She seems to do ok in the pen but outside she does not.

She is so much like a young mother! I hate young turkey Mothers, they are so reckless.

I moved Ethel and her rotten eggs last night, I did not know if she would take them once I moved them. It was iffy, but she took them, she is just days from getting good guinea eggs and babies!

Goodness...that hen seems to be a bit of a hussy. I'm sure Ethel will be a good moma to the keets. That picture Feed man posted of that moma hen with that itsy bitsy keet was cute. So I guess a mom turkey isn't too big & heavy to raise keets?

Gevshiba...I'm scared to ask you about the turkey & hen thing!

OK Aurora. ...still waiting for a mottled update. :pop

Ethel will be a good Mommy no matter what is under her. She is just a good bird all the way around. When I was carrying her to her new coop last night, she had such a confused look on her face.

She was not happy at first, but took to them in just a few minutes.

I have visions of Ethel free ranging with a cluster of guineas following behind her. Daisy was laying in the pool again with wings spread & head on the rim. Everytime they see me they hop up & head toward the gate. I just can't seem to get a picture of them in the pool.

1000

The poults enjoy the mama brooder heat pad. I think this is definately a great way for summertime brooding especially, so far. Less fire risk, and they get to sleep at night without blaring lights in their faces. And just look at that little face sticking out. And that lazy little butt with the sleepy feet ! I can definately tell the 3 palm x burbon reds from the pure burbon red. They are very sweet babies!

Awww....just darling. Love the feet poking out. From everything I've read, folks seem to really like the moma brooder. I think Ralphie uses that method.

Bantambird: very cute. I'll have to look into that mama brooder.

Since temps are getting 90s during day and high 70s at night. All my poults that were in the inside brooder are now outside.

Hatched a Bourbon in incubator last night. Took it over and slipped it under the broody hen with the keet. It slipped under her and she never paid it any mind.

If i can get them to strut again had 3 of my older poults strutting hard and chest bumping this morning. Kinda cute.

But when they do something like that. I never have my phone for pics.

But it looks like my hatching is producing more males. 2 were from palm x narri crosses.

Couldn't get my babies to strut again.
But the ones I put outside this morning are liking the bigger pen and roost bars.

The guinea keet that was under the turkey was not looking good. I brought it in gave it some water put in the brooder. But he didn't make it.
The 2 poults seem to be doing well.

Hung some more wire around my pens. Need 20 more feet and all will be complete til I expand.

Picked a 5 gallon bucket of cucumbers. 3 sacks of green beans. Have several zucchini and yellow squash that will be ready in a couple days. Garden is doing quite well.

Sorry to hear about the keet :(

You are picking out of your garden already?? Wow! Sounds like it is producing well.

Apparently I'm running behind, I haven't planted my veggies yet
