A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Guess who is missing a turkey hen again tonight?

You know, I've had a brilliant idea for a small gps tracking device to attach to flock member's legs and computer program to track them for problems like this (and predator attacks). I just don't know where to start with it lol. In my mind, the program would allow you to track each bird individually to see where they are and have been throughout the day to be able to find hidden nests, point of attack by predators, as well as where predator dens are if they take their catch back with them. Ideally, it wouldn't be any bigger than a zip tie or NPIP band attached to their legs.

A quick google reveals a lot of dog/pet trackers. The cheapest and smallest of the bunch are the key trackers. None of them will be in a price range to afford more than a few for an entire flock. Of course the smaller they are the more limited the range will be and the shorter the battery life.

Nice idea with most of it attainable with a well written computer program. The main problem is cost.

I tried a tracking device on Ethel last year. The problem was me. My hearing is not good enough to hear the beeps and know when I am getting closer. I could only hear it if I was standing on top of her.

Maybe you should put a steel band around her leg and set yourself up with a metal detector with headphones!

Aurora...if you can develop the Turkey Tracker...sign me up!

Spent the evening watching the turkeys playing in the sprinkler. The chickens were horrified! Boy they were having some fun. Can't get over how much the like to play in the water.

Ralph - sounds like you have a stubborn hen there! Maybe she's working on a nest?

Memphis - love the turkeys playing in the sprinkler  I may have to try that with mine one of these days - I wonder if they'd enjoy it?

Poor Big Bird, she's down to 2 tail feathers and not very interested in being petted right now  I rehomed one of my 3 month old Jersey Giant roos tonight, so feel like I accomplished something lol. I was surprised how many people wanted him when I posted on CL.
