A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Jopheso...YES!! My hens were even worse! They were flying into each other. It completely stressed me out. But they settled it in a couple days & all is back to normal. Thankfully everyone here told me to get over it & let them settle things!

Rjohns, are you sure your tom isn't doing his job? He may be shy when your around! ;)

I have yet to see Homs turkey porn collection! We better watch it or Kathy will post some of that Pea porn. Which is hysterical! Especially the series of the Pea with a camera case. That still gets me laughing!

Aurora, your sure getting some interesting crosses! Little Sprinkles is darling! Are you keeping this new & unusual poult too?

I'm starting to get 2 eggs per day! I have one Jake and two hens so this is maximum egg production for me. (Not including quail, ducks, chickens, etc.)

I bet if you grab them by the throat and threaten them, one of them will pop out another, They are being obstinate...
And do not let them give you that crap about it being in the union contract!

I now have 5 adult chickens & getting 4 to 5 eggs a day. coupe is 6 foot square w/ 4 nesting boxes. a 10' x 20' fenced in area roof also. I would like to get 2 broad breasted turkeys( approx. 10 weeks old) for thanksgiving.
should I fence off a separate area with a their own coup. naturally provide separate food & water.
when can I mix them in with the chickens? or should they be kept separate?

Welcome to BYC..... And to this thread....

You can mix them in as soon as they accept each other. However, are you aware of blackhead? Read up on it, but do not let that stop you.

2 BB turkeys are going to be huge if they are 10 weeks now by Thanksgiving. Depending on where you live the summer could be brutal on them. You might end up processing them in August and freezing them until Thanksgiving. Is that Ok or did you want fresh turkey?

I had to re-read what you asked. The turkeys will not fit into that coop. 200 sq ft is not a lot but it would work in a pinch. The problem with that small of an area the turkeys will not be grazing but spending the day stuffing themselves on feed. They will get big fast. Of course, this is just my opinion, wait for the turkey gurus to give you their opinions.

Hi I'm new to turkeys also and the others are experts for the advice. But I just have to say my 2 were hatched by a chickens and they have fitted in nicely with my flock. Chickens don't know age just size and they will have their own pecking order. I do give mine a shed each but Delilah chooses to roost with the chickens. And my rooster quite often bully's my fully grown Tom. sure the others will answer your question better.
