A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Got a serious question... Leg bands. Has anyone found something other than tywraps that will stay on and not cut off circulation as the bird grows? Even Tywraps are an issue if you don't cut them tight and clean. If someone can get a hold of the end, it will get tightened. ARG!:caf

Yes!!!

I use a color coded system...The USDA Vet today was impressed with it.

I use different color bands (yea cable ties),, I assigned each color a value and simply add the total to get its number. The bands can be left loose, and there are no numbers to rub off.

There is one feral hanging around the neighborhood. I've been lax, I need to trap it & get rid of it. However, Sunday as the turkeys & I were collecting the neighbors mail we confronted it in her backyard. Both girls fluffed, fanned, stuck their necks out & marched toward it. That cat got the weirdest look on its face & ran.

I found a wild turkey nest yesterday while hunting mushrooms at a friends place..and I found 2 hidden nest here, one with chicken eggs and one with chicken and turkey eggs. I am not sure what to do, it is a safe place (relatively) which I like for a turkey to sit. But a bear to get in and get the chicken eggs out of.

Oh, I forgot to mention, maybe,,,having senior moment. I have a turkey hen in sickbay, I expect to lose her.

She has a puncture type wound to the head. I thought a bird of prey but there was a dead possum on the road a little ways down. I now blame it.

Hate to hear that Ralph. Possums and coons are dispatched ON SIGHT. The only time I have a problem with raptors is when they have nestlings. I will generally look the other way unless they start making it a daily stop

I have a ton of eagle here and they all have babies that like to eat my babies..

I just hang CD discs shoot a lot (in the air not eagles) and force the dogs to stay outside when they have the young.

I have never seen a life possum here, we never had them until 15-20 years ago when people started buying big round hay bales from down south and they hitched their way north. Most winters are cold takes care of them. This must not have been a cold enough winter,
