Good news is you have a spare already, it's two sided blade... But it doesn't look like they sell them separately. But you're cheapy tool is a Top of the line manufacturer.

I like my turkeys but I miss my lappers and Snitch is just not into being a lapper.

I am starting my next batch of eggs on the 12th of Dec. I might throw a few of the turkey eggs in a week earlier, just to see if I can get a lapper.. If the turkey keeps laying eggs between now and then..

I know one of them is "ready" I caught her submitting in front of 3 toms the other day. They all took their turns on her.. I called her a "slut" but it did not phase her one bit. I kicked the toms away and they all just went 30 feet and she laid down to please them all again. This was the semi-whatever Narrgy hen I have. I was going to try and breed her to the RP.. I guess with her I will take whatever comes out. I am betting she will have lots of kids all with different fathers the way she acts!


On the processing yesterday. The PVC cutter is way easier and faster than the axe. I will never go back to an axe. Rjohns when I said cheapy I meant it. No replaceable blade.. Here it is, I think I paid 7 bucks for it. The other was a picture I found online.

It was fast and easy. no mess, no missing The neck was severed every time in a second. The roosters bleed out into the bucket and the Turkeys just flopped on the ground. We did hold a net over them to limit the flopping some. I will be making a turkey size killing cone next time.

Also it appears one of my other Toms will be leaving. The nice Asian lady asked if we had a turkey for the Holidays... I have been thinking of getting rid of one more tom. I guess the blackest Tom will be moving to turkey heaven soon.

The two turkeys dressed out at 18 and 20 pounds without giblets. I was quite impressed with the size. The lack of breast is always surprising when compared to the BB. BUT the legs and thighs are huge on them. Much good eating for our family...

The corn for the last two months did its job. They had a lot of fat on them. I am going to ask my DIL save it if she does not want to roast with it on them.

Good feed bags work really well for cones for turkeys. Cut a corner out for the noggin to go through. Someone here said they tape the wings so no flappin.

I have used bags they work, but my turkeys fight going into a bag. I hate to rile them before the act. With the chickens I can put them right in. The plastic is slippery, and when they wiggle it tightens up on them as gravity pulls them further in.

I think if I made a big turkey one it would do the same thing.

I was going to put a harness on Romeo for when he meets the girl scouts today.....he disapproved. I put it on and it looked like it was going to work great! One leg and one wing through a gap in each side. Nope. He started freaking out about it, pulling his wings through and ended up flopping on his back in the mud meanwhile the other tom was thinking that something was wrong with Romeo so he was going to step up, kick him while he's down and take over the flock

I rescued Romeo and took that harness off him and he went flying at the younger tom and kicked his butt back in to submission so THAT idea is out the window. I do have another harness that's made a different way that might be more comfortable for him but now I'm not sure I want to try it lol

So about a week ago this pretty little girl started laying now she almost always does what sounds like a locator call. Do you folks think anything is wrong or is she just not happy with her nesting choices? I removed the egg she laid on our stack of pellets and followed her to another nesting location to make sure she wouldn't start one too far from the house. She found one of my slash piles from my logging operations and started trying to nest there I destroyed that location because it was 50 yards behind the house in a blind spot where I can't see if anything is approaching. I have a pen built for them but I didn't build it high enough for heritage birds and they clear the fence with no trouble, when I built it I didn't know what I know now and thought domestic turkeys couldn't fly at all (something I was told years ago)

Romeo! Sorry....but I had to laugh! I can just picture it.

Ralph....I miss my lappers after just being out of town! I think you need to hatch one! Since it will be so cold when the potential lapper hatches...it can be kept in the house and watch tv with you!
