A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Just lost a BR turkey this morning.

She was perfectly healthy until yesterday morning, when she suddenly developed diarrhea and lost all appetite. No weight loss, no blackhead poop but I treated it for her anyway. She continued to 'bark' and sing to me while I let them out this morning. Looked up a Baytril dose for her, went outside to weigh her and she was lying on the ground dead. :( RIP, bearded Bertha.

This year has been something else, I tell you.

I'm so sorry for your loss :(

It's RAINING!! We've been under drought conditions, so this is huge! And thankfully it's 42 out and this isn't an ice storm. We are supposed to get an inch...or so. Someone explain to me why I knock myself out making sure my six strategically placed waterers have clean fresh water at all times....and as soon as it rains everything with feathers is sucking down muddy water from puddles?

Now it's your turn to post pics Guineagirl. What turkey variety do you have? How big is your flock?
As much as I love my turkeys, I've made a conscience decision to stay with the two girls. Much easier to deal with....easier to train vs a big flock.

I will try to post pictures soon, devices are not cooperating right now :barnie. I only have three turkeys right now, One is a Broad Breasted Bronze tom, I am not sure about his two hens, as they were a gift. This spring, I am planning on buying some turkeys to show, now that I know that I like turkeys. :)

So sorry, that's awful.

FYI, there is no such turkey as a Bronze Breasted turkey. There are Broad Breasted Bronze turkeys and there are heritage Bronze turkeys.

Broad Breasted turkey, is what I meant.
Thanks! I probably never would have noticed, that I posted that wrong. :)
If you do some research on the broad breasted varieties you will learn that it is not a good idea to keep a broad breasted tom with the intention of having natural reproduction. You can get by using broad breasted hens with heritage toms.

Thanks for the info! I have done some research on that, but I did not know about the broad breasted hens, and heritage toms.
