A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I thought my babies where eatting alot but most of it i found was on the floor. How can i keep them from spilling there food?!?

When you get the answer to this could you share it with the rest of us?

Small holes they have to pick through helps but nothing is super clean and non-wasteful.

I feed mine twice a day and the first thing they do is knock over the trough... Morning they'll clean up every speck, I feed them dinner about an hour before dark and it will be gone by bed time. It took a lot of experimenting to find the right timing and amount of feed.

ETA: At the age of your birds, I kept their troughs with feed all the time, but to answer your question more directly, they don't get up to eat in the middle of the night (assuming it's dark). I give my little ones 14 hours of light per day. The brooder is in the barn with no windows.

So the person who I gave 5 bourbon red eggs to said one was non fertile, 1 died, and 3 are forming, 2 of them better veins than the third. Don’t know what incubator or handling techniques were used.

Time will tell!

I have about 30 eggs from just over a week of laying going in soon. Waiting until this wind storm threat passes since don’t want the power to go out.

Ok. ;/. Ester still isnt even close to bein up and puttin anymore weight on this leg of hers. She has given her deposits every other day like is normal for her and eatin and drinkin a bit. But her poop is now green and runny. So.. could this be from her sittin still or more not good stuff goin on with her? Since she has been in jail i have given her blueberries but three to five each day is all. The first day she did have some clover that she picked a lil bit at but none since.
could be she isn't eating much and the bile is coloring the poop.. or it could be liver issue

Thanks.

I checked her our really well a few times to make sure. And the only spot is up on her neck. It isnt deep at all like a gash but a bit more than a scratch. I think it may have come from myrtle cause we separated the tom and tried to leave her with the ladies and that is where myrtle went for on her. And there was no blood to see cause i had cleaned it really well. It is healin nicely.

You're not a bad mom... Maybe post some pictures of your setup. poults are very vocal, but if they're trying to tell you something, maybe one of us could spot it through pix.

I hate candling eggs! I always tell people bad things happen when candling...

I candled today out of boredom and to celebrate January 90th. (on the Erlibrd calendar) It is that cold again today....

I managed to drop an egg, it did not bounce as expected when it hit the cement. I had just finished candling it and I was at least right and it was a non-starter.

Some of the turkey eggs even have veins at day 5. That is so early to see veins in them. There was one egg I had picked out of a mud puddle. It was easy to tell because the part in the puddle had lost its color and the water line is visible. I think it might have even frozen a bit into the ice. That egg has visible veins! I think it is a Christmas miracle!

The chicken eggs did so poorly I am back to saving eggs again. This is the year for hatches from H-e- double hockey sticks...... I should just give up on having show birds this year, they are going to be so young, I will get laughed out of the shows.

Well Ralph, if the chickens are too small/young to show then you'll have to show turkeys!! Maybe you could go best in show with a turkey at Hutch!!
Put your upcoming hatch into lapper training as soon as they pop out of their shells! Honestly my turkeys are easier to groom than my chickens. Just think how impressed the judges will be with a well groomed lapper!
