So the one egg that’s pipped at the wrong end has some blood around the membrane edges? It’s beak is out and I can see breathing but the bloody edges have me concerned.

So it’s about half out on it’s own backwards but am leaving it be. Can see the beak breathing air and a wet wing. I think the day old hatched poults pecked at it and they’ve all since been removed (had to open the incubator since one had its neck stuck in the power cord for the turner and was crying/struggling). Three of them dang near jumped out when I opened the lid so all hatched 10 are in the brooder and 2 more just started pipping. I’ve kept the humidity up and temps good despite the opening.

14 showing no signs of pipping yet but will give them extra time. Day 28 isn’t over yet (and I did put them in about 10pm so we’re technically 5.5 hours away)

The yesterday hatched poults in the brooder are eating and drinking on their own. Have them on some paper towels with food scattered about.

A week from Thursday I'll set my first eggs. My black girl escaped today, but we have her back in the convent and fixed the section of greenhouse she took out. I might replace the plastic with welded wire this weekend. She's impatient and wants a Tom, but it's not her turn yet.

Backwards hatching chick made it out on their own and another pipping one is starting to zip! They seem to like to hatch in pairs.

thanks for the reinforcement .. I had 3 pip yesterday , a day early.. 2 were out by 10 this morning.. the first one to pip is still zipping.. hard to watch him struggle.... but he also pipped from the wrong end.
a Chicken has 4 other turkey and 4 chicken eggs. The poults hatched yesterday and this afternoon she left the 4 chicken eggs, 2 are pipped... and took the poults on a tour of the coop. I put the eggs in the incubator and will see if they make it.

Out of 6 in lockdown 3 have hatched 1 zipping 1 pipped. 1 still waiting. For my turkey.

Have about 25 new baby quail that have hatched today as well.

PolarBerry congrats on a good hatch so far. Happy the upside down poult made it out.

I hear from lots of people who open say once a day to pull hatched ones and don’t see negative results. But I know the hatcheries don’t.

Wouldn’t theoretically the momma bird at least shuffle/rearrange herself periodically and let the occasional not-as-warm or humid draft in for a few seconds? Just speculating.

I know this is artificial conditions and as stable as possible is best but they could just be failure to thrive type ones without the incubator opening causing it specifically. Although I’m sure doesn’t help if have any questionable ones to keep opening it.

Look at these two! They're getting so big! I'm thinking that I may have a pair. One is bigger, little more bald, and bossier than the other. If they are a pair, their names will be Phil and Lil (from Rugrats for anyone who doesn't know). Suspected boy on the left, girl in the right.
