A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Won't stir the pot on the gmo vs non gmo. But unless you grow it yourself or an elevator or has a farmer grow crops specifically for feed usage to their specs. The odds of getting a non gmo corn or soybean product are miniscule at best.
so true.. that is what was great from buying from a farmers co-op that claimed to do random testing... I never had it tested so I was just trusting their info.. figured I had a good chance since all they dealt with was organics and non gmo tranistional grains.. They still get the grains from the farmers, but sell it to big companies by the ton.. I have no room for tons of grains and they would go bad before I used or sold them anyway.

How far are you from the nearest Mennonite or Amish Community?
there was a farmer half way that went down every month, but they could only get what they had since they couldn't call and order... I ended up with chick starter instead of turkey grower LOL I haven't bought from them again but I may ask them if they could order for next time , when they go down

Are these poults from 5/7 calico? Or too soon to tell

Made it back from the sale. Bank clock was reading 103 when I went past it.

I assume it was the heat as the crowd was small. So it wasn't a good day to sell. But I needed to downsize so all I took sold. Getting softer the older I get. Couldn't make myself fill the freezer. Kinda worried about some turkeys I sold as the people that bought them didn't know how to pick them up or move them. Kinda got a chuckle out of a lady trying to shoosh a stubborn tom from a big cage to a smaller one. So I caught him and showed her how to move them. She said she was afraid they would bite her. I told her they were just like feathered pirahana to watch her fingers. The look on her face was priceless.

But I did buy 8 hens and a roo that are jubilee orpingtons.

Hey Feedman! Was starting to wonder if the heat got ya up there! Was going to run up to Ste. Gen the last few weekends, but just too hot. If I dont have to travel with dogs in that kind of heat I wont! And YES...Ted has been shown twice as a puppy....dog under a year. We got points toward his UKC Championship at both shows. Had him entered at an AKC show in Mississippi but due to heat didn't go. It will be this fall before I get him out again. No coon hunts going on right now either. Just sort of on hold till it starts cooling off!

Those Jubilee Orps are beautiful!

Tonight we had some amazing homemade turkey breaky sausage for dinner. Back story..... a weekish ago the outside freezer got unplugged. So a third of it was thawed..almost two turkeys were in that thawed mess. it also got a deer, bout five rabbits.. i had my crash course in meat cannin that night lol! It was all still good n cold so it was use it or lose it thing. Paul ground fifteen pounds of turkey and made us sausage. Son the young couldnt tell it wasnt pork and my mother... the must be pork (we had a hog farm here years ago) and i can always tell if you are cheatin person... had NO idea. Hahahahahahhaah! After we told her it was turkey she was all complainin that she knew it was wrong and not pork.... this was AFTER two pieces... and mama usually doesnt go for but half a piece cause she had gastric bypass years ago. It was pretty dang comical! Our chickens gave us the eggs for dinner and my gracie goat supplied the milk.

Oh! I pouted bad at the grocery today.. had buyy milk. ;/. I want home ade ice cream tomorrow for sunday dinner dessert and i didnt have enough leftover from my gracie this week for it. Blah! I only get a pint a day from her but that is usually plenty for paul and i. Just not for ice creams.
