A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Sorry I've been MIA for a few days. I just haven't really felt like talking much. Our dog, Sparkles, unexpectedly passed away on us on Thursday. She was fine 2 days before, playing with me and arguing with me for "her" chair in the living room, then Wednesday evening she started throwing up here and there. She had a lot of issues so for her to have an episode like that didn't raise any red flags. Thursday afternoon, she laid down to take a nap, like she always did and just never woke up. She was only 7 years old but an English bulldog mix. I know that their average lifespan is only 8 years old and that they're prone to just drop like that but we were not prepared.

We were able to bury her along with the ashes of our other two dogs that she spent her life with. Dreamy passed about 2 years ago from cancer. Rocky started going downhill afterwards so we held on to Dreamy's ashes to bury them together. We had to put Rocky down around November. He was almost 15 and old age caught up to him. At that point the ground was frozen. I guess Sparkles wanted to make sure that they were all together. This house feels so empty now. We haven't been without a dog in about 16 years.

I am so sorry :hugs
It's so hard to lose them, especially early:hit

:lau
If I need to get a hen that is sitting on a nest, back to the run, I just pick her up, stuff her into my armpit and hold her legs with the same hand while keeping her wings against her body with my arm. They get really frustrated when they can't fight back. Of course I always have on long sleeves which is a little protection.

Now that your experienced, you can come and take my hen off her nest. She has been there nearly 4 months... and still threatens me when I get close.
It was hot, to me, yesterday 75 . So yep I had tee-shirt and jeans.
Ha both nests are in good spots to keep me out. This one is under the truck cap that is on saw horses surrounded by blackberries.... the other nest is under broken barbwire, grapevine and the blackberries.
Why do the best producing berries grow where you don't want them?

No ralphie you need to suit up at night and shove a cockerel under her.

Aurora, I can identify with that, having lost a dog less than a year ago, and having an old “grey” black lab that needs help getting into the van now... and needs to be lifted into the truck.

Life without a dog is hardly life at all... which at my age is a dilemma..

Do I get another dog or not? Is it fair to the dog to live with old people.. and finally the dog could outlive me...

What to do.....

before the dog I have now, I went 10 yrs without one. I was working a lot and told myself it was because I didn't have time for a puppy.... but it really was because i cried like a baby when I had him put down. :hit
finally in 2011 I got a 3 yr old from the shelter... thinking I wouldn't bond as much with a dog I didn't raise  not too sure about that
Max is getting old and I am afraid every morning when he is late waking up.... I left the burn pile over winter incase I needed a funeral pyre when the ground was frozen. :(

We adopted our dog, Ruby, from the shelter about 6 years ago. They thought she was about 2 years old at that time. She's been getting really grey in the face lately, but still acts like a puppy. She's an extremely high energy catahoula mix. She has been the absolute best family dog. Will not leave her kids and whines, and paces when they go outside without her. It will be sad when she goes.

We lost our oldest cat last winter. He was the same age as my middle child and made it to 19 years. He went downhill fast, but stayed with it long enough to cuddle the kids one more time before they left for school that morning. He was alert and purring at his kids, then as soon as I shut the front door and turned around he was gone. I really think he waited for them to leave. That one was tough.
