It did freeze here. The potato plants got touched a little but it looks like everything is okay.

It has finally been dry enough today and cool enough that I have gotten a little of my mowing done. I am so far behind that it isn't funny. A visitor asked yesterday if I was going to mow or just let it all grow.

It's been extremely difficult to mow here too. Our yard is completely flat and when it rains a lot, the ground stays wet for a long time. We can't run the tractor to cut the grass without sinking in and making mud ruts. It stayed dry for about a week and we were able to cut it finally but it's supposed to start raining here again.

just checking to be 100% positive....a turkey and a chicken cannot mate.
someone is selling them and calling them turkens....

Tom turkeys have been known to try to mate with chickens (hens or roosters). It usually does not end up well for the chicken.

Matings have been done via artificial insemination. They have not ended up with any live offspring.

I'll also add that it's hilarious to see a bantam cockerel try to mate with a turkey.

Tried taking pics again. I CAN'T hang on to them & operate the camera. They won't settle down enough in the pen. Will get some one to help. That penciled looks like a piece of popcorn hopping around.

Oh yes, i forgot about the Clay. We've dug it up and used it place if cement around the yard. My town is famous for the Clay and used to have a huge clay factory here (Patton clay works). There's actually "Patton pavers" under the Iffel tower in France that were bought here.

The little penciled tends to fan her little tail out horizontally. Wondering....would that be an indication of a hen??

At that age it can be either but it is a good sign that "she" might be a she.
