i saw something about a Blue Narragansett (of which my mom fell in love with the idea of a blue Narragansett), so now i have to figure out how to start a line of Blue Narragansetts although the turkey calculator was very helpful in finding other colors i could end up with from my current flock, i could not find the right combination for Blue Narragansetts (my flock is only 1 Golden Narragansett Tom, 2 standard Narragansett hens, and a 2 month old Golden Narragansett hen)...

At this time because of the restrictions that Porter is requiring from anyone acquiring the recessive slates from him (no crosses), the only way to acquire what he is calling the Recessive Blue Narragansett is directly from Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys.

The Turkey Color Calculator is not set up with the new names that people have applied to different varieties. The Recessive Blue Narragansett (bb nn slsl or bb n- slsl) is being called Light Lilac Recessive by the Turkey Color Calculator.

If you are looking at pheno and genotypes page pics the blue narr pic when opened is being called a dilute red slate.
That would be your tom bred to a slate hen and then any slate type hen hatched bred back to your tom would give you a 3% chance of a dilute red slate (bb Dd nn or bb Dd n). Based on what I think your toms genetics are

that sounds about right, but that is also assuming my Golden Narragansett Tom has no hidden genetics, when he was given to me 5 years ago, the people who caught him found him running around neighborhoods (they were guessing he was either wild, or escaped a turkey farm at a young age)... so unfortunately i do not know his origin other than he was identified as a Golden Narragansett (i have suspected that he might be a result of a bourbon red crossed with a standard Narragansett)

Yes, Memphis. I am keeping all but the NINE at this point. As I said earlier, one of my sisters decided to "help me out" and she purchased 20 chicks. Four sets are a trio - 3 Speckled Sussex, 3 Light Brahmas, 3 Black Jersey Giants, and 3 Dominiques. That is my new breeding stock.

However, because TR the rooster - (his name stands for Teresa's Rooster), is at least half Wyandotte as far I as know. So she bought HIM 2 Columbian Wyandottes, 2 California Whites, and a Buff Orpington.

Then there are the 3 turkens - going to breed them to different roosters to see what I can get - for fun.


Right now I have 6 other hens. Two are "elderly" and are from my first hatching 8 years ago. They will stay till they pass away. The other four are granddaughters of TR - and those I plan on giving away at some point. Mothers were pure Australorp and 1 ISA brown. All were hatched last fall from broodies and all four are laying eggs.

Currently, counting chickens, ducks, and turkeys - I have 48 birds.

Which is ironic since I had gotten rid of most of my chickens so I could play with turkeys. Sisters have a funny way of changing things. So now I get to see how it all plays out.

Our leetle man turks were havin a snood pullin contest this mornin... in struts red to do the deed to the snake.... and POOF three leetle man turks. .

I am confused on the fourth one... thick legs, mohawk, snood gets longer but not like the other three, no strutting.... horizontal fan...

The other three are even makin the alarm call and tryin round up the other littles when they think somethin is amiss. No one has gobbled yet of them. Saw two this mornin with very blue noggins and red necks and the other of the three had some color just not as bright as the other two. But pretty positive three are toms. They strutted and poofed and danced round the snake. I laughed at them so hard tryin be all studly. The other one... nadda nothin didnt care to be in the snood pull or strut yer stuff nothin. Just here i am turk kid eatin all yer food and causin havoc. Lol!

Red is at least a year and a half. We just got him early this spring and i am pretty sure he is not older than a last year tom. He has hardly any spurs to speak of. And when he started tryin do the deed after he got here... it was comically pittiful at first. That part... might have just been that he had not been with any hens though. But i dont think he is two yet.

If you are askin bout the little one that i am not sure on.... three maybe four months old.

So....here is the mottled's tail. Poult is still molting & growing in new feathers. Was interested in the brown spots on the tail. That does look like a mottled spot... right? The little guy is developing white spots too. I just "thought" the brown spots take longer to come in.
