I tried squirrel one and it was really good. I tried rabbit that same day....I did not like it. Squirrels and Chipmunks are all over the place here, especially the Chipmunks. I hear them chirping all through the woods every morning before I feed the chickens. It sounds like lots of birds chirping almost! They've been clearing the hickory nuts from the trees nonstop lately. I can't imagine then all disappearing!

I have no chipmunks left around here... starving cats eat them!!! Go Cats Go!!

During winter months I harvest squirrel and rabbit to cook off and feed to chickens for extra protein since no bugs.

I never get a decent pecan crop so I don’t mind the squirrels eating mine.

In a good year I get 8-10 bushel pecans. Production runs in cycles with a good year then dwindles for next 2 then a bumper crop again. If squirrel population not kept in check the eat about half the pecans when still green husked.
Plus I do enjoy braised squirrel with onions, garlic and mushrooms

Flash....so that's what happened to the squirrels. I don't think I would miss them. Like Fred, I have pecan trees and they just ruin the harvest.

I know!! I did not get one pecan this year...

I am betting R2elk did not get any either.

They pick them off the trees while green, take one bite & spit it out. What a waste!

I did not harvest any pecans this year (no pecan trees will grow here) but I did harvest two almonds. Should have been 3 but I couldn't find the third one.

I have never gotten an almond either.
