A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Memphis, you need to come and get DQ. She would fit right in with Daisy. She follows me around, when I am not moving she stands about three feet away and stares at me with that head cocked sideways stare.... and gossips..,

she goes on and on, clicking, peeping, twilling and just making noise. Not an agitated noise, more like a content sound mixed with nagging because I haven’t given her exactly what she wants.

If I sit on something and there is room for her she jumps up. If I touch her or hold her the drama starts.

I will pick her off her roost in the evening when I lock up just to hear her drama. She does not try to escape, she just throws a drama fit. When I put her back on the roost she does not try to run away. She just tells me how undignified it was to be held. Then settles back down right where I set her.

She feels and acts entitled.. if she does not find a home she will end up being entitled to a spot in the freezer and on the table...poor DQ.

Can you ship her Ralphie??
Shipping adult sized birds is very expensive and can be very hard on the bird. You are not allowed to put any water in the cage with the bird and an extended shipment can be deadly. Most put some type of high water content fruit in the cage with the bird.

Ralphie should be able to provide you with the paperwork necessary for you to get her on the plane with you. Use some of those frequent flyer miles. Papa will be happy to have another hen in his harem.

I can see you running around, pulling your hair out this summer as you search for a hidden turkey nest.

Memphis - About 4 years ago, I had a really big snowstorm here. My main fence around the property is an old 3-foot tall chainlink. The snow was up or over it, depending on the location around the yard. Snow had blown into 5-6 foot drifts and the snowplows made them even larger. On top, we also had a major 4-inch crust of ice due to an ice storm followed by a sleet storm. That snow was on the ground for a month at the very least.

None of the squirrels were apparently able to find enough food - to the point they were eating "berry-like" pods off my pear trees. So I was making food for them out of chicken feed and anything else I could find in the freezer and pantry - and according to what search results said they would eat. I went out and got on top of some of the drifts and hung up milk jugs with bungee cords - side cut out and filled with food. I did see squirrels eating it.

When spring finally showed up, I noticed there were very few squirrels. The next two years - I saw NONE - not a single one. Nor did I see any chipmunks - also gone and STILL gone. Where that tree fell is a patch of woods that borders me - and my property line goes into it for about 20 feet, I guess. I have been here for 20 years and there were always squirrels and chipmunks running through the yard - even eating my strawberries.

It's only been in the past week that I have seen 3 - all small young ones, so obviously there are adults. Two of them were 2 miles away from my place. The one in the pic is the ONLY one I have seen all summer.

Btw, when that snow finally melted, I realized those feeders I had put up - were unreachable. 10 feet or so up the side of the tree. I guess it's a good thing the ice was on top of that mess - or no one would have found me before the snow disappeared!
 :lau

I’m on friendly enough footing with squirrels and chipmunks as long as they stay in the woods where they belong. Unfortunately ours think they ought to be under the hood, chewing up very expensive bits of wiring—or fervently working to undermine drystack rock retaining walls—or replacing the insulation with (much more useful) winter mushroom & pinecone hoards.

*Note: I do not attempt to relocate renegade rodents. I would add them to the stewpot, but DH would totally freak out. :gigThey get tossed into unmarked graves in the deep brush where not even the coyotes can find them.

Ok, I submitted the first pic I put up here to the turkey color genetics - see if anyone will say yea or nae on either. Right now, I am still opting for him being a Calico - but heck - what do I know?? :D

Adding, the pic someone has up there now - looks sorta like Tommie and kinda sorta like that Cornish Palm you showed me.
I think the pic on FB is burried in the op's post. If no one responds you might want to make your own post with all the pictures you have. They like lots of pics. They like open wings too
