A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

My Blue Slate hen is on day 28 today. None have hatched or even internally pipped. I️ can clearly see movement in the egg/air sac, possibly shadowing. It hat been like that for a couple days now.

When do y’all predict I️ may see some poults or even some internal pips?

Thanks!

Leave her alone, the poults will hatch when they hatch.

I️ need to keep a close eye on her because we are going to have to move her and the poults to an enclosed area because we don’t want her free ranging with all of our predators and the Toms.

Thanks!

Move her and her whole nest now. She is a dedicated broody and will stay with the eggs.

That’s what I️ thought, but about an hour ago she went missing and I️ couldn’t find her. Low and behold, I️ found her on a chicken nest in a bush. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I tried putting in the enclosure and she wouldn’t have it. She ended up getting her original nest back, I️ couldn’t risk losing any of the eggs and my incubator broke earlier this week. Soooo. Yeah.

Thanks!

How often do hens abandon poults?
Sunday night a coon got 5 of 6 poults being raised by 5 turkey hens in the poultry yard. The lone poult left is being ignored by his moms.
I herded them all in Monday and Tuesday. They started ignoring it Monday night. But one did come off the roost to keep it warm. Tuesday it manged to get up 4' to the roost.. Wednesday there was a coon in the yard near lock up and everyone went in on their own. (I got it tonight.) But the hens kept moving away from the poult. Tonight the hens went up 30 ft in the trees as soon as I got the coon. They were not concerned about the poult, even when I chased it down and it screamed bloody murder.
So now I have one lonely poult. Before when it went by other hens with poults they ran it off...and the older poults ran it off too.
It's the youngest poult I have.
Well I took it back out today and they are taking care of it.

Also got another coon in the box trap this morning.
The one in the tree yesterday was a pregnant female... little late, they usually are born before this

The method is to put the hen and the eggs in a pen from which she cannot leave.

Someone was on the wrong side of the fence tonight.

Ok a was able to move her and get her to stay, but not without a exploded rotten egg. So now I️ have a whole new dilemma. As my hen was frantically trying to remove the exploded egg from the nest, she stomped on one of the eggs and smashed it. It is not internally pipped, the membrane is still intact and the poult is still alive for now. Is there any way to save it or will I️ have to watch it die? It is moving around a lot, but half the egg shell has been smashed in. The air sac is completely collapsed. There are no liquids leaking from it anywhere. The egg shell remnants fell off upon picking it up. Please tell me there is something I️ can do!

Thanks!
