A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

If Corid is working, they should start being more active within the same day. There are many different strains of coccidia and alot of them are resistant to Corid (i said that already). Can you get a fecal test ?
Yeah I saw your comment and was keeping it on my mind, just didn't want to switch over too early if I was being too rash. I clean at a veterinary center so I can probably grab a few samples and take them in and use the chart to look. It needs to be a sample with the blood in it, I'm assuming?

Yeah, or any cecal poop, because coccidia lives in the ceca.

My husband and my son got my new perch made for my turkeys. Look at what a great job they did.

Interesting. took 3 fecals, nothing i can tell that looks off really. The spots i assume are just bubbles. Maybe we werent zoomed in enough but we were using the same method they use for checking dog and cat feces. I expected to at least see some cocci since all birds have it naturally but not even one. Pics arent the best but its hard to take a pic thru the lens. Only got pics of 2 of them though.

That doesn't look like a fecal test... you need to filter out the "poo" pieces and mix it in a fecal solution, and then wait for the oocysts to float to the top. This is what a coccidia looks like under 250x zoom

Thats what we did. Picked a fecal, put it in a tube, put the fecal solution and let it float for 15. Those pictures are ones we took with fresh smears while we waited on the fecals in the tube to float, Mom said the vets can usually see coccidiosis in fresh smears but thats with dogs and cats. We checked one after 15 and it looked the same, nothing noticeable. We'll check the other tube ones in the morning to see if anything has shown up.

irrigation has been kicking my booty! I get 4 days on and then 3 days off, and then i have to coordinate with the other farmer that uses part of the same lateral as me so we both get water. I am running like a chicken with its head cut since the ditchrider scrounged me up some more water, too bad my harvest is already in ( and it was TERRIBLE) but perhaps with a little luck I MIGHT be able to squeak a second cutting, but I am not holding my breath here. Three hens have suddenly disappeared, with occasional reappearances. Someone appears to have done in the fox for me. Rumor has it that one of the folks up the road has been trapping lots of foxes that have been fleeing construction just down the road from us. Let me say I am grateful, but my daughter wanted a raggedy summer fur fox tail hat she could pummel. Oh well!

My sister went home, we finished with my grandmother's memorial, and we finally are moving forward with getting my MIL into her own place ( my husband is overjoyed) so I feel like we are going to finally start slowing down around here soon. I have fence repairs coming up, since I had a poor hay crop, we figured the best way to make up for it was to keep it and board horses since local hay prices are hoovering around 10.50 a small square right now. If I include hay on board, I should be able to make enough extra to help on maintenance that I need to do around the place, or at least that is the hope, right?
