I use sand for the brooder bedding because I live on a sand dune. I get the sand free by digging it up. I doubt I would use sand if I had to buy it.

Offering appropriate sized grit in the brooder is fine even if they don't need it.

I agree on the grit, I'm going to pick some up today. That will put my mind at ease.

I use sand as poult grit. I have only seen pullet grit for sale by me. One place does have pigeon grit in 50lb bags, a bag was broken and it looked like sand to me.
I get tube sand for weight in the pickup and I use that

I used to raise cockatiels, and grit for cockatiels (and other small birds) is like a coarse sand. So yes sand is a great grit. And I watch my older turkeys eat sand all the time. We have a lot of sand and sandstone. The sandstone makes digging really hard when we are digging post holes or planting.

So I have heard! They are like toddlers eating things they shouldn't. I will find some coarse sand for them today, probably in the bird isle at WalMart or TSC.

TSC usually has a chick grit that works well for first month or so for poults. Sold in small bags.

I just sprinkle a little on top of feed, so they don't overeat it at first until they know the difference.

I played around with it some and I think it is a very helpful tool. Some of the varieties for the traits I plugged in weren't available, but you mentioned you were still adding to it.

The tool itself will only show results if a certain combination actually exists in a turkey, otherwise it will just show the message that no match was found.

The hard thing is to anticipate how different people interpret the different traits.

If you selected the traits based on a real turkey, in 90%+ of the cases it should show you some matches. If not, please send me a screenshot of the selection + a picture of your turkey so I can figure out if there is an issue with the tool itself, or if I have to adjust the tool in order to make up for the different interpretations of people.

This information can really help a lot to make the tool even more user friendly, so thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciate it!

I put in traits trying to get it to bring up Harvest Gold and Red Sweetgrass, but I may not have done it correctly. I am going to take pictures of my turkeys so that I know I am putting in the correct colors and try again later. It's probably just user error on my part.
