Yes. it is amazing how they get their big butts up and fly.Turkeys look so big but when they fly, it's like they're weightless.
If you ever get flogged with those wings you will quickly understand how strong those wings are. They will beat you black and blue.Turkeys look so big but when they fly, it's like they're weightless.
That’s amazing, being able to see them go to roost, and seeing just how high up they can get. I’ve seen my domestic toms get fairly high up with surprising ease, but the wild ones are so agile, it’s a bit shocking. Here is a pic of them all roosting last summer. you can barley see them in the top.View attachment 3774696
Reckon your heritage toms will father their poults this year? It looks like they have adopted your farm as their home. The large flock of heritage turkeys is reassuring to them I'm sure. A turkey is a turkey to them. They feel safe there. This is the girl that thinks she owns the placeand has been around the farm since hatched last spring. Her momma brother and sister left late fall joining back up with main flock,View attachment 3774607 but this girl adopted the farm as home and never left. The other hen with her in other pics I believe is her sister as she was not that scared of me and seemed to know her way around.View attachment 3774609
With them big ol "beat you to death" wings is how. Lol. Huge wings, lean bodies, hollow bones. I love watching them glide over the 4-lane from the bank of one mountain to the other side when we are driving. They are amazing birds.Yes. it is amazing how they get their big butts up and fly.
I do my best to keep them out but the girl that made her home here, I do believe will breed with one of my toms. Throughout the years I have been able to keep them out and have never even seen an attempt of them breeding. The hens don't really hang around as much as wild toms do. The hens usually visit at first breakup of local flock and move on, a few lower pecking order toms end up not being able to leave all my hens. They hang around outside of pens for a month or so before realizing its all over and they finally move on.Reckon your heritage toms will father their poults this year? Sorry to hear of your crazy dayDoes anyone know of a place or breeder that's selling Royal Palm pairs that I can use as a proof of value for the birds? I've had a crazy day today and part of it is that a dog killed a pair of my Palms. The owners are GOING to pay me back, or I'll be taking it to court, and I need something to show the value of a breeding pair.
