Troutfin poofed into existence besides Burnscar, Squirrelflight, and Breeze. "Need some help?"Breeze let her eyes drift open for a heartbeat to pinpoint where Squirrelflight was. After determining her general location mentally, Breeze tripped sideways until she was pressed against her companion's pelt. "Squirrelflight," she barked, her fur shivering as it absorbed the much-appreciated warmth from another being. "Look at this storm. If we're not careful, we're going to end up dead ourselves. One of us has to continually scout for hazards- how long are we actually going to make progress that way? We can't go on ourselves much farther." Her voice caught in her throat at dead and the remainder of her sentence came out as a squeak. "Our uninjured packmates are searching too. Some of them should catch up."
(@ChickenCowboy02, @PeepersMama, @vachick15, @bean306, @Jetblack2004....there's no excuse now. >°} )
Dotpup puffed out her chest and did he best to look stable as her tattered pack laid emotionless eyes upon her and her unlikely allies. I'm not afraid of them, see? They may be coyotes, but look. There's no reason these individuals deserve your hostility, she silently pleaded, fiercely willing her dog allies to read the statement of alliance written oh so clearly across her set muzzle. Though her friends and family were right there before, she made no move to advance forward from Shadow's side and bury herself in their supposed protection.
Dotpup nearly gagged aloud at that thought. Canyon Pack's so-called protection was exactly what had gotten her pupnapped and her father killed.
That's when she raised her eyes to exchange a meaningful glance at the packmate closest to her. Instead of finding the relieved welcome she expected, his gaze was clearly guarded and as soon as he caught her looking, he turned away. Frowning in confusion, Dotpup turned her soundless greeting to the next dog.
She got the same response.
Along the entire row of bleeding and worn dogs, it was all the same obvious aversion. Moth, her wise and courageous unofficiated mentor, even went so far to turn her head completely away.
Dotpup shrank back, stung as if she'd clasped a bee between her paws. The motive behind their chilly fronts was perfectly clear.
They blame me.
Dotpup scrabbled backward as Stream herself pinned her darkened glare onto Dotpup's searching visage. There was bland, hopeless grief there, as well as crackling blame that sought out to jail anyone but herself. The condemnation left unspoken by the rest of them vociferously sang there, in her Alpha's shroud of letdown, all Dotpup needed to hear
They blame me for their losses.
They blame me for the war.~
(Dust could be her male mentor...)
Dust nearly roared with anger. How dare THEY blame a PUP for a WAR. It was written on his entire body. He gently placed a paw on Dotpup`s shoulder "They are wrong, Dot. None of this is your fault. You didn`t know this would happen, neither did they." He whispered to her, giving his pack a deathly look. Anger coursed in his veins and he looked at each of them in turn, his eyes locked with Stream`s, then Moth`s. A sound of paws broke the silence and a pup came forward "I`m glad your okay Dotpup." Lickpup said her voice caring and loud enough for all the pack to hear, as if telling her pack how wrong she believed they were.
Shadow made eye contact with Dust as he glanced back and nodded. Her face was blank, her paws dragged in the dirt as she walked, every muscle of her (particularly her brain) overrun with exhaustion.
Coal stood up from her resting place on Wave-lapped shore. Her keen ears had heard something besides the hushed tones of her packmates as they asked about each other's injuries. Wearily, she pulled her legs beneath her and forced herself to stand, then stumbled back up to the main part of camp.
Dotpup!
She was back!
Never had Coal felt such a flow of joy... and never had her joy been so quickly dampened.
She felt a new strength in her limbs as she shoved her way through her packmates and over to Dotpup. What would have been a grin was a look of pure, unadulterated disdain for Canyon pack as she went to her.
"Glad to have you back, short stuff," she barked warmly. "I would've come to get you myself, except-"
She glanced up and noticed Shadow for the first time. The brindle hound was watching her cautiously, her eyes glaring out at Coal and the whole pack defensively.
Coal turned her gaze to Dust, raised an eyebrow questioningly and motioned to Shadow.

Streak's tail instantly started to wave when his tired eyes fell on Dotpup. The war wasn't for nothing! He thought, joy shooting through him. Then he looked at his packmates, at first unsure of their darkened expressions. His tail slowed, drooping down, along with his joy. We've suffered so many casualties and heartbreak... to bring this pup back... and the pack that took her from us only just now decided to give her back?!Dust sighed as she stepped forward, but still, the only ones who were welcoming Dotpup were Lickpup and Coal.
"Look, I know we don`t like coyotes, but these two betrayed Rip pack to save her. One is just a pup. Come on Coal, show them we are not savages. How ever we hate it they saved her, we didn`t. We owe them." He said, but quietly so only Coal, Shadow, Duskypup, Dotpup, and Lickpup could hear.

Brindlepup sat akwardly beside Calamitypup, unsure of how she would react to anything. She watched as Reed slipped into his den, his black pelt nothing more than a blur in the shadows.
What now?
All the fighting was over, the packs had all left, and Brindlepup felt more alone than she expected... Something was missing...
She sniffed Calamitypup, who had stopped sobbing and fallen into an exhausted daze, then stood up and trotted back to the Belle's den to find Duskypup. She stuck her pointed snout inside, and just before she called out she realized that neither Shadow nor her sister had been there when Rocket came to get her.
A knot settled into her stomach. A knot that made her want to go die in a hole but wouldn't let her sit still. She spun around, wheeling wheeling perfectly on her hind legs, and sprinted to the nearest corpse. It was that Canyon dog that her mother had killed to protect her. For a moment her memories spun out of control l, flitting across her mind's eye in an exact replay of everything that had happened.
She shoved it away and dashed to the next body.
Then the next.
And the next.
Finally, she had sniffed every single dead dog in camp, and none of them were her mother or sister. She knew she should feel relieved, but it only scared her more.
Slowly, thoughtfully, she paced over to Owl. She stood in the Coyote's intimidating shadow, but to her own surprise felt no fear - perhaps it had been used up all at once.
"Where's Shadow and Duskypup?" she asked, her voice painfully innocent to her own ears.
(I don't think so... Make something up XD)(I can't remember if Owl knows. ;-; )
