Ash winced as she rolled her front paw out from beneath her stiffened mane, bloodless and all feeling deadened. Next was to move her left shoulder out of its awkward slump beneath her chest. An sole-surviving nerve put up a ruckus, but otherwise it was pretty easy to right. If her limbs hadn't folded incorrectly on their veins the way they had, she'd be experiencing so much pain right now. Never thought I'd be grateful for all my whole body to have fallen asleep.
"Yeah, I am," she murmured carefully, testing out her voice. Her words were cautious feathers dusting away the grime that'd settled in her derelict throat.
As she turned to face him, blotches of color pulsed behind her eyes and set the bad taste of nausea in her mouth. Her vision cleared to reveal the battered little male that adored his teacher standing near with wide eyes of relief. "How long was I out?"
Birch's heart jerked, and she blinked shaking her head. Shewasn't dreaming."Oh, My sister!"She whispered, nuzzling her sister's cheek. She hardly heard Bluepup's voice."5 days, I was sure Proycon was going to claim you." Her wounds still ached, slowly healing, but weight seemed lifted from her shoulders, now that her sister was awake.(River Pack)
Something was calling her. She could no longer deny it; pathetically putting return off was no longer an option. The subconscious necessity to return had been gradually intensifying, and the only way to come down from this convicting climax was to leave this place of euphoric denial.
Maybe it wouldn't be so hard; perchance the anticipated pain had left.
Perhaps waking life could be better now.
Ash blinked away limbo's shroud of protection. Dizzying hazes swirled across her disused eyes, expanding to consume the light they lusted after. She couldn't exactly recall what was supposed to hurt, but she knew for certain that the dull aches slowly reclaiming their various rightful positions wouldn't stay gentle for long.
With a weak smile, she leaned up and licked Birch's tearstained cheek. Oh, how she must have suffered while Ash had been holing up in darkness' cavity. "It's okay now."
