a student with a less than clean family brought in cupcakes and half the class got food poisoning.
The latest food poisoning cases didn't come from someone's kitchen, but from big agribusiness. Peanut butter, tomatoes, peppers....
And if it comes from a bakery it is loaded with soy, high fructose corn syrup and other garbage. No wonder people homeschool.

No, I volunteer everyday at my daughters elementary school, and it is not the teachers, it comes from the school board. Heck, the teachers say, "they don't see anything".

My father was a high school teacher for years. Now he's a college professor. He's a much happier individual now.
Juding by the post you edited, I'd say you are in serious danger of burnout. Good thing it's almost time for summer vacation, I think you could use one!

Well this is a lil off topic but ....When my dad was in the army late 70's he and my mom were friends with another couple. Well one day wife was mad at hubby.... and then decided to call a truce with him (but not really), and decided to make him a big chocolate cake. She brought the cake to the barricks and hubby decided to share with everyone (was not entended for everyone just hubby) needless to say she did spike it with ex-lax to play joke on hubby and everybody that had cake..got the trots....and then they ran out of tiolet paper. I thought she was gonna fall out of her chair when he called
to ask what kind of cake it was ?
ETA: The kids in my DS class usally did'nt care if the cupcakes where made or store bought they just loved cupcakes......I understand why the school boards decided to do away with homeade for several reasons and usally no one disputed it....and bakery cupcakes are awesome.

I don't want to hijack a thread or be insulting myself, but yes, it was meant as an insult. The meaning behind being that we mean and greedy teachers won't let the kids have it but we'll stuff our fat faces with the ill-gotten gains. The rules are due to allergies and law suits that parents are just looking for a reason to bring against the schools. We are lucky, we can have homemade goodies here, we don't have to do the store bought thing unless it is a goodie sale then it has to be store bought.

You need to look at your homes, and quit blaming the schools and teachers for all of your troubles.

The problem is that decent people have no idea of how many threats schools get from litigious parents who want to try to throw their weight around or use threats to get their way or defend their or their child's behavior. Some just use any excuse to bring suit hoping to get a cash settlement.
What the decent parents don't realize is that manipulative self-serving parents affect the additional rules and regulations that restrict their own child's freedoms.

One loud mouth or bad experience ruins things for everyone else, unfortunately.
Why is that anyway? I've seen many postings where teachers have gotten the brunt of people's frustrations.
It's very difficult to be a teacher. When student's complain about educators, I ask them if they would want their parents to teach in the classroom and the universal answer is a resounding, "NO!"
I've been a teacher for 23 years now. Had I known what I was getting into, I never would have entered the profession. When people tell me that they are interested in becoming educators, I advise them not to do so, unless they teach at the college level because those students have elected to be there.
I'm sure that it was a great disappointment that the cupcakes couldn't be shared that day.
However, as a veteran teacher, I can assure you that the administration doesn't always let educators know about "school policy" until a parent has complained. The administration points the finger at us, parents are upset, and then so are the children.
Be kind to us.
